If we are going to make a dint in major social problems like violence against women, we have to take seriously the evidence that boys are neurophysiologically more vulnerable to trauma and adversity than our sisters.

I just want to remind everyone that your nervous system’s responses to trauma (fight, flight, fawn or freeze) are not as within our control as we’d like to believe. There’s also no hierarchy in trauma response (fight is not inherently better freeze) ❤️

Funding specialist DV shelters rather than using motels as crisis homeless accom made dramatic difference in % of survivors able to leave the perpatrator
“I don’t see this as a crisis centre, but as a secondary prevention tool, because of 200 people who have been through it [since its quiet opening last October], only one person has gone back to the perpetrator,” says @safestepsFV Dr Chelsea Tobin GAICD “With motels, there is a 50 per cent unsafe exit rate.”
Safe refuges and shelters, with wrap-around supports & extended periods of stay, save lives. Motels used as ‘temporary accommodation’, which many states use to manage capacity issues, do not.
