Another hugely successful AH conf today. Thanks to the guest speakers who gave up their time to talk about trauma-informed practice, COPFS, conflict resolution, family support, restorative justice, homelessness, government policy & much more. We are ever grateful for your inputs!
29 dissertations winging their way to SQA. Well done Team Mods - a brilliant set of dissertations on a variety of interesting topics. We are sure the markers will love reading them ๐๐๐

We were delighted to once again welcome a group from Billeshave Efterskole to GWC. Our AH pupils gave our Danish friends a tour, before spending the afternoon @MyresidePav discussing differences/similarities between our schools & the Criminal Justice Systems of both countries ๐ฉ๐ฐ
@gracechocolate2 were given as a small thank you to our guest speakers. These are handmade by women touched by the CJS. They receive training & work experience, build transferable skills, resilience, self-esteem & confidence to make positive lasting changes in their lives
Replying to @Prev_Justice
@Prev_Justice the areas with most deprivation, alcoholism, drug use, crime are also the areas with the most bookies, off licences, chippies. These are all connected- people experiencing stress and trauma. Everything is linked. How do we reduce stress & poverty?
We need to be compassionate and look after each other. We have a propensity to try to punish people out of their trauma- all that does is exacerbate the trauma!
Our final keynote of the day focuses on @TraumaAwareLaw @trauma_lawyer @Prev_Justice @KeeganSmith_Law
More excellent workshops this afternoon- lots of great questions for our guest speakers in each session
Workshops now well underway- lots of great information being gleaned from our guests @heavysoundCIC @FamiliesOutside @ScotSentencing @NavigatorsScot @COPFS @RachaelMoss__

@ComJusScot We have six Second Chancers boards on display throughout lunchtime in the hall. Please do engage with these. Each desk has clear instructions with QR codes to scan to allow you to listen to/watch these stories
An outstanding start to our conference today @DirectorVRU So many takeaway points. "An overnight success is ten years in the making" and "Early Intervention can save a life, but early prevention saves a community" were ours. What were yours?
A social prescription might be the change these people need @NavigatorsScot @DirectorVRU Forming relationships- walking the journey with people who want change and need the help to do so. Powerful work we will hear more about in Tam's workshop later
Homeboy industries and Street & Arrow- believing in people and giving them opportunities, responsibility, belief and a positive future @DirectorVRU
We need a public health approach. Interesting comparison with how the government tackled covid- doing something different. Best way to tackle crime is to prevent it in the 1st place. Intervention and alternatives are key. Learning from international approaches #CIRV @DirectorVRU
Up first is a keynote presentation by Professor Niven Rennie @DirectorVRU "you can't arrest your way out of a problem" ๐ฎ๐ฎโโ๏ธ
Schools are starting to arrive. While we wait, #SecondChancers stories are being shown on the big screen. Throughout lunchtime, visitors can scan the QR codes beside the canvas displays at the sides of the stage to listen to some more of these important voices @ComJusScot
