Why is @jamieoliver using gas hobs for his 20 Minute Meals series. It’s a brilliant series, but burning gas is incredibly toxic in our homes, as we’re discovering, and induction is better, faster, cleaner and easier.
It’s a missed opportunity to show people that induction works
First @forestfocuspod I’ve left before the end. Overly shrill and, for me, not doing that calm job that I value of assessing the game. It was a good - at times very good - performance and 3 points only denied by poor Milenk’s howler. Way too much negativity
😠 Two more points dropped?
😡 Referee shambles
🙏 Got to keep believing

I mean, moot, but this is a key point and has been denied us by pure ideology from Thatcher onwards.

Britain’s missing sovereign wealth fund… Treasury officials have modelled that had the UK done what Norway did with North Sea revenues, there would be a £1 trillion fund…
As Chancellor sets up Energy Wealth Fund, a look at the long historical argument about where the oil windfall went, including from interviews with those who have run Norways $2.4 trillion fund, now the biggest in the world, filled from the proceeds of the same North Sea.

Sure but as we know, Jackdaw is at best capable of supplying 2% of UK gas demand. It won’t make the price of a therm any cheaper.
Rosebank is oil. All exported and refined elsewhere. Either a cost or security play.
So that leaves HMT revenues. Just increase EP Levy a bit!
The green case that Burnham can make for new North Sea oil and gas production:
– Domestic gas is 18% less carbon-emitting than imports from the US and the Gulf states.
– Higher tax revenue can be used to support green energy, EVs and heat pumps.

If none of the Jackdaw gas was exported, the most optimistic scenario has it meeting 2% of the UK’s annual gas demand over a 10 year period.
True progressives also understand that climate change is 1. A global collective action problem. If all countries add further exploitation, we all suffer. 2. Not static in terms of solutions. Even since the CCC’s 7CB report, battery costs have collapsed opening up more options.
Exactly, the Climate Change Committee estimates that the UK will still rely on oil and gas for 20% of its energy needs in 2050.
There is no contradiction in supporting domestic production for this purpose and also championing renewables investment.
True progressives can handle trade-offs of this kind, populists cannot. arguably.uk/p/is-net-zero-st…

Heat pumps don't put up bills unless you have a spark spread over 2.5 and no time of use tariff. As for the claim that they don't work as advertised - they very clearly do if you have proper installs. We will continue to back the world class companies and innovators that do.
Heat pumps don’t work as advertised, subsidies for them are for middle class families, and they put bills up in most cases - all this is rooted in data. This quote is silly - Madeleine Gabriel, director of sustainable future at the social research charity Nesta, said cutting the scheme “would leave the country’s whole approach to climate and energy in disarray, in the middle of an energy crisis caused by our reliance on fossil fuels.” Heat pump subsidies are not part of a coherent plan, our targets for installation rates will see it take 100 years to complete and we’re missing those targets significantly. All for good reason. We don't have a coherent plan, or even a plan right now to ‘decarbonise home heating’ - dumping gas boilers is unrealistic, hideously expensive and not thought through - it’s from Boris Johnson - nuff said? As for the role of gas in driving bills up - that’s a fact and the answer is to ‘break the link’ which Andy Burnham has announced he will do - this will bring bills down. This article is devoted to supporters of heat pumps and the industry selling them, merrily cashing in on subsidies - where’s the balance Politico?

Please can the @forestfocuspod crew take a look at this. Genuinely exciting. Obviously needs to exist in parallel with stadium redevelopment because you don’t want to hold that up, but it demands a hearing.
Following the publication of @OliverPridmore's article yesterday regarding the City Ground planning process, here is a detailed look at our proposal: Via Garibaldi. Rather than settling for a functional footbridge to satisfy a planning condition, Nottingham should be ambitious 🧵
Also really really hope (but doubt) that the @NFFC stadium plans include the maximum possible quantum of solar panels and battery storage. No large institutions - especially those with access to capital - should now build without creating additional electric power.
One of these days I’m going to buy one of the mobile phone charging stand/clip/mounting devices that are promoted in my timeline and it’s going to be shit.
This is brilliant!

‘The real disaster of British energy policy is trying to deliver an energy transition through a form of privatisation that has lost its original logic.’
FWIW I’ve come to this view. Not anti private sector, but market complexity masks profiteering.
In the 1970s a state owned utility pulled off the most remarkable mega project in energy history, and it’s why we have gas boilers in our houses today. The same state owned utility invented LNG, sold global consulting services, and drove down prices lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n17/…
