ποΈ In the remote places where AKF works, access is a major challenge β regular training is essential for ensuring safe and efficient travel.
In #Mozambique, AKF staff take part in regular motorcycle safety training sessions. Motorcycles are often essential for reaching the communities they work with.
Strengthening driving skills helps our teams to travel more safely, reduces risks and fosters a culture of safety across programme operations.
Thank you to Concord Safety for delivering the training.

π§ How can rainwater help solve water scarcity?
Through #ReGeneration, AKF's 10-year initiative supporting coastal communities and the natural environments they depend on across the Indian Ocean region, communities are driving solutions that enable people and nature to thrive together.
In this episode of #ReportingForAKF, Soraiya explores how rainwater harvesting is helping families in coastal Kenya capture and store water for everyday use, improving water security as rainfall becomes increasingly unpredictable.
π°πͺ Next week, Soraiya explores another community-led climate solution in coastal Kenya.

π§ βA well-designed water investment can be a climate investment, a livelihoods investment and a community resilience investment all at once.β
Speaking at the Global IDA Forum during the @WorldBankGroup-IMF Annual Meetings in Bangkok last week, Sultan Abbas β National Manager for Programme Development at AKF Afghanistan β shared how AKF's Water Emergency Relief Project (WERP) is helping communities respond to increasing climate pressures while strengthening local governance of water resources.
Supported by the World Bank through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF), and implemented by AKF with @ActionAid and @dacaar, WERP reaches around half a million people across 400 communities in 20 provinces.
In a country facing recurring drought, declining groundwater levels and climate-related shocks, the programme combines climate adaptation, responsible water management and community ownership to support communities to secure reliable access to water and build resilience for the future.
As drought deepens, farmers dig deeper for water and women walk farther to fetch it. A tap at the doorstep ends that walk, freeing time for health, learning and livelihoods. Women also helped shape the decisions: nearly 10,000 helped choose and prioritise schemes.
During the session on 'Scaling Innovation to Deliver Impact', Sultan shared three lessons for scaling impact:
βοΈ Co-create solutions with communities from the outset, ensuring local priorities shape design and delivery.
π€ Co-operate through trusted partnerships that combine global standards with deep local knowledge and long-term presence.
π Co-benefit by investing in solutions that address multiple challenges at once, strengthening climate resilience, supporting livelihoods and improving access to essential services.
Thank you to the World Bank for the opportunity to contribute to this conversation and for its support in delivering impact with communities across Afghanistan.

In Bihar, #India, a simple mobile app is digitalising the way livestock keepers track and use their resources, ensuring good nutrition for their livestock.
AKF is training pashu sakhis (para-vets) in animal nutrition, ethno-veterinary practices and livestock management β they then share this knowledge with farmers, providing tailored feeding advice and animal husbandry practices.
Their work is strengthened by an app that enables data collection and analysis to support evidence-based advice for livestock keepers.

π©Ί At almost any hour of the day or night, Gulzat can be found walking rural mountain roads to provide essential healthcare in her village in the Kyrgyz Republic.
This #DayOfRuralWomen, meet a family nurse whose dedication helps ensure people in remote mountain communities can access the care they need.
Based at a health clinic serving around 6,000 residents across three villages in the Naryn region of the #KyrgyzRepublic, Gulzat provides round-the-clock care to up to 700 people in her assigned area. Without a vehicle of her own, she travels on foot in all seasons, often day and night, to reach patients despite the challenges of distance and limited transport.
Alongside her clinical work, Gulzat teaches at a Parent School, where expectant mothers and their partners learn about pregnancy and childbirth, and new parents receive guidance on supporting their children's early development.
With support from @CanadaDev, AKF has helped strengthen primary healthcare services through staff training, infrastructure improvements and equipment procurement, helping dedicated health workers like Gulzat deliver quality care closer to home.

π¦ For Umar Sarwan, this crab-fattening pond is helping build a sustainable source of income in the face of climate change.
As pressure on coastal resources builds, fishing becomes increasingly uncertain. As an alternative, Umar (in blue) has adopted soft-shell crab farming with support from the @AKRSPPAKISTAN.
Through AKRSP's efforts to build coastal resilience in Sindh, fishers are rearing crabs in controlled ponds and selling them in Karachiβs markets, where soft-shell crabs can fetch premium prices. To date, AKRSP has established five crab-fattening ponds and trained 105 fishers in crab farming, diversifying livelihoods while remaining connected to the coastal economy.
This work is supported by the Embassy of Denmark in Pakistan and forms part of AKFβs wider coastal restoration and livelihoods initiative, #ReGeneration.

π₯ βWhen I walk into the greenhouse in the morning, my mood instantly improves for the entire day!β β Usmonova Sabohat
In November 2025, Sabohat planted her first crop in her new greenhouse, and by December, she was already bringing fresh herbs home to her family. In her second harvest, Sabohat grew vegetables; some were used for home preserves, while the rest were sold to local shops.
βNow, I am not only doing what I love, but I am also earning an income," she shares. "I feel deeply motivated knowing that I grow organic produce using biofertilisers. On top of that, we have fresh vegetables and greens on our table all year round!β
