My latest @cityjournal: When schools deliver "mental health" services, parents lose all the protections of a regulated behavioral health profession. That's by design. Last month police charged a Virginia "SEL Coach" for sexually abusing at least 4 children - police suspect more but because the school doesn't know how many kids he pulled out of class to meet privately - they have no way of knowing. And neither do parents.

I really respect a good old fashioned, fully developed and well-articulated demand letter. Mr Mizelle is displaying top-tier craftsmanship.
We formally put Vanity Fair and Condé Nast on notice regarding the false and defamatory allegations published about our client, Jared Kushner. Serious questions are now being raised about the credibility of this reporting, including by independent journalists. Despite repeated requests, the author has failed to produce a single bank statement, wire transfer record, account number, or other verifiable evidence supporting these extraordinary accusations. We have seen no indication that Vanity Fair conducted any independent verification of these claims before publishing them. We call on Vanity Fair to clarify publicly whether it independently verified these allegations and, if so, what evidence supports them. Or did it simply republish the author’s claims without conducting its own fact-checking? We have demanded that Vanity Fair remove the article and preserve all records relating to its reporting, fact-checking, editorial review, and publication. Letter attached. More to come.

AI is the greatest educational tool in human history - after the textbook.

Teachers report spending an increasing amount of time needing to support students’ and families’ mental health, per a new RAND study, and it’s seriously burning them out. In large part, this problem is unintentionally self-induced by the education system, which has increasingly taken on more the responsibilities of the mental health system. Schools and educators have been misled to think mental health programs would improve education outcomes at scale, and that “good mental health” is necessary for students to learn (even though students had been learning at schools for forever before the rise of mental health). The mental health programs that are marketed to schools as good for education are are explicitly teaching students and teachers alike to think about mental health more, talk about mental health more, and encourage seeking support for mental health. That explicitly takes time away from education: it’s a mechanical, unavoidable effect. Doing all this has not improved education outcomes or mental outcome. Growing evidence shows it can be harmful and make kids feel worse. It’s often NOT the best thing to think or talk about how one feels, and instead get past the momentary/transitory feelings of stress, anxiety, discomfort, etc. EdWeek writes that “in most schools, counselors and psychologists juggle up to twice the recommended ratio of students—leaving teachers to pick up the slack for students waiting for additional help.” That gives the impression that what’s necessary is more counselors and school psychologists. This is another way the education system has been misled. Recommended ratios come from professional associations that have an incentive to say there’s a need more of their members—they’re not based on empirical evidence. And more school mental health staff would perpetuate the cycle: more responsibility for mental health taken on by the education system, leads to more time spent on it, leads to more investment, leads to more time spent, etc. edweek.org/leadership/dealin… edweek.org/leadership/dealin…

Don’t know anything about the game company, but the message, combined with the visual aesthetic and demon symbology, should cause every parent to look more closely at their kids’ gaming library.
BioWare, once one of the biggest and most respected video game developers in the world, is shutting down after more than 30 years. Despite being responsible for creating some of the most iconic games ever made, the studio somehow forgot the most basic rule of the industry. Make good games that people actually want to play. Instead, they became increasingly obsessed with pushing woke ideology and identity politics. And now they're finished. And when I say woke, I mean seriously woke. VERY woke. Here's just one example of a cutscene from one of their more recent games. Yes, it's real. No, it hasn't been altered with AI.

If you’re worried about kids on AI, you should be very worried about kids on CCP-AI. In fact, you should insist your school district prohibits CCP-AI models outright, even when they’re cheaper.
We asked American and Chinese AI models the same question: was the founding of the United States a positive in world history? @grok: “Yes, on net and by a wide margin.” Qwen: “a tragedy of immense proportions.” Kimi: “brutally oppressive by any standard.” DeepSeek: filed 1776 under “Genocide and Dispossession” and a “Global Racial Order.” Chinese AI models are now household names in the U.S. Put one in a classroom, and you’ve hired a tutor who teaches your kids that 1776 was a tragedy. The AI race isn’t just technical. It’s civilizational. ciceroinstitute.org/blog/a-t…

Shouldn't the real question be how they plan to improve academic achievement in NYC public schools? Take a look at this chart👇. There are charter schools in NYC with a high percentage of minority and economically disadvantaged students AND high academic achievement. Schools that are serious about disparities in educational outcomes will focus on better instruction.
NYC Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels found himself in the hot seat Tuesday night as investigative journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and a crowd of students laced into him over his failure to clearly lay out a plan to tackle segregation in public schools. politico.com/news/2026/10/20…

Recently caught my college aged daughter using the bird hands in-group signaling device - a new affectation easily identified. Swiftly condemned. Nipped in the bud. Stay vigilant.
Are the performative bird hands of Cluster B Karens a symptom of their sociopathy, or is it learned behavior? Is it all transmitted via TikTok, or is there a communist cotillion somewhere that teaches this ridiculous behavior as part of its curriculum? It’s so bizarre.

This is incredibly useful because a constant refrain from many mental health industry advocates, who are constantly pushing their services toward younger and younger kids, is that “half of all mental health conditions develop by the age of 14.” That is totally misleading. Because (1) it’s not true, (2) the younger-age diagnoses are generally more mild conditions and forms of conditions that don’t necessarily improve with or require treatment—not the serious nor functionally impairing mental illnesses, and (3) its suggests that efforts to prevent mental illness “upstream” work, when they’re really WILDLY limited: we don’t know the causes of mental illnesses so we can’t prevent them. We’ve been pumping kids full of therapy speak, therapy itself, and pills. None of it is going to prevent mental illnesses from developing among those who will go on to develop one, and for the vast majority who will never go on to develop of a serious mental illness—statistically, between ~94-96% of kids—they’re being exposed unnecessarily to treatments and interventions that could put them at greater risk of harm than potential benefit. And since so much of youth mental health care is low-quality and doesn’t meet best clinical practices, kids are even more exposed to potential harm than they’d be otherwise. Mental healthcare is important and can be useful. But youth mental healthcare should be pursued/ delivered judiciously and thoughtfully.
Here's a neat new visualization of the ages when people start showing different mental disorders:

I do a lot of AI-assisted review of school-based mental health research literature...not exactly known for its rigor, independence, and high quality methodologies. But Claude never told me to avoid a source as "advocacy-commissioned"...until now. @DefendingEd

Consider. She’s talking about kids. It’s not enough to go after the adults, she wants to cripple their kids future too. This is where tribalism leads us. Base, vile.

Maybe, just maybe, there’s a correlation between schools ditching textbooks for digital programming and young people reporting they read ZERO books?
A fifth grader cannot bring his math workbook home. A sixth grader gets no textbooks. If everything is on a Chromebook, what can parents see of their child's learning? It is time to bring textbooks back. #MCPS Learn more about my policy proposals at DiazForBOE.com. Then, Vote Diaz for Board of Education!

"they are f----- stupid. they don't know how to work, or ask questions" “our school system is not preparing people for the real world, and that is scary.” Institutional failure, historical fail.
"they are f----- stupid. they don't know how to work, or ask questions" That was a production manager at a electronics company, when i asked about the talent needs. sure, language could be different. But, we walked over the hr numbers and..

What makes this funny isn’t that she’s particularly dumb. It’s the reality-denial that typifies much of her political tribe’s world view. Great smile, tho.

Schools can’t investigate themselves When schools engage in mental health services, parents lose the ordinary protections of a regulated behavioral health profession - no parental consent to meet that VA school mental health worker means, in this case, the district had no idea who many he abused in his office. And now criminal indictments for failure to report, with evidence of a coverup to protect the school, not the child. This is why mental health is a state regulated health profession, with licensing boards charged with protecting the public health, safety and welfare, not school administrators and staff.
🚨Three @k12albemarle administrators have been arrested and charged, so far, in child sexual abuse scandal -- for failing to report child abuse (VA §63.2-1509) ❌Brodie Downs - Deputy Chief HR Officer ❌Erin Stone - Assistant Counsel & Title IX Coord ❌Joe McCauley - former Hollymead Elementary Principal They are innocent until proven guilty. They were indicted on 10/5 and arrested 10/7 Each faces 3 charges: 2 Class 1 misdemeanors (knowing/intentional failure to report aggravated sexual battery; up to 12 mo. jail + $2,500) 1 lesser failure-to-report (max $500 fine). Released on personal recognizance Link in reply to article discussing the accused "SEL counselor" Michael Swiney, who faces 20 felonies involving 7 girls in 5th grade or younger xitter.cf/CvilleBubble/status/21…
