Back home from a joyous celebration of Holy Communion on this great feast. We began with Wesley’s “Hail the day that sees him rise” and I was struck by the profundity of the line “Still he calls mankind his own” - there, in one clause, the reason we dare to have hope. Alleluia!

Thinking back a couple of days ago to Rogation Sunday @ASPavement. The Lord blessed us with fine weather as we beat the bounds of the parish. Evensong followed and concluded with the hymn “Judge eternal, throned in splendour” - a favourite and so appropriate in the present times.

Might you or someone you know be called to serve in York? All Saints is a PBS corporate member with BCP services every Sunday morning and evening, and other BCP services are held in this group of historic churches with many exciting missional opportunities. Do pray, and share.
The advert for Rector of the York City Centre Churches (us, St Denys, St Helen w/ St Martin, and St Olaves, held in plurality) is now live - see below! Please share far and wide and pray that the Lord would send the right person to be our new incumbent. pathways.churchofengland.org…

Easter Day, part 2. The scene after a lovely Evensong at which I preached on Christ’s resurrection appearance to Mary Magdalene in John 20.11-18. A pizza buffet followed, as is now tradition, before fellowship continued in the pub opposite.
Easter Day, part 1. Early Holy Communion @ASPavement followed by a sung celebration mid-morning. Wishing you all a happy Easter!

In September, the Duke of Edinburgh presented the Royal Dragoon Guards with a new Regimental Standard. This afternoon, the Regiment attended their church @ASPavement and deposited their previous Standard (presented in 1998 by the then-Prince of Wales) to be laid up in due course.

No evening service at my placement church this week, so back to @ASPavement for Evensong. Choir and congregation sang the “alternative” canticles Cantate Domino and Deus Misereatur, which will be our practice from now on in Lent and Advent.

A full hour of outdoor carolling @ASPavement this morning - as I will be down south on Christmas Day and thus not singing or playing “Christians awake”, I insisted that we sang it today.

Yesterday it was announced @ASPavement that our Rector, Liz Hassall, is to become the next Archdeacon of York and so we will be in vacancy from January. Please pray for us as we enter interregnum and seek - through God's help - to discern the right person to be our next Rector.

Please do pray for the daughter of one of our trustees, to be baptised today according to the #bcp1662 order - may both her baptism and the words of the #BCP form be a blessing to her and many more people old and young, from generation to generation.

Good to be back at All Saints for Mattins this morning. In addition to the Venite, Psalm, Te Deum, and Jubilate Deo, we sang “When morning gilds the skies”, “Teach me, my God and King”, and “O love divine, how sweet thou art”. The anthem was Attwood’s “Teach me, O Lord”.

Beautiful moving service @prayerbook_soc, recreated precisely from Westminster Abbey May 8th 1940. @ASPavement York Choir, organ both wonderful & cream tea was delicious. God Save The King 👑 🇬🇧 VE Day 80yrs An exquisite pulpit from which Wesley once preached. Pews dedicated to the Royal Dragoons. Reasons why no more pews, pulpits, lecterns sounds be removed from our churches!
