Could “more bladder filling” actually make prostate radiotherapy harder for both patients and treatment teams?🎯 practicalradonc.org/article/… Excessive Bladder Filling at Simulation Correlates with Longer Treatment Times, More Interruptions, and Inferior Patient Experiences During #ProstateCancer Radiotherapy☢️ This study examined whether excessive bladder filling during prostate radiotherapy affects treatment efficiency and patient experience. ➡️Among 211 patients, bladder diameters >10 cm were associated with longer treatment times, more table interruptions, increased worry, and greater frustration. ➡️Importantly, coaching patients to reduce bladder size was feasible and successfully achieved in all 20 coached patients, resulting in shorter treatment times. ✅The findings support personalized bladder-filling guidance during prostate radiotherapy. @ASarafMD2, @jonathan_leeman, @DrPaulNguyen, @MoningiShalini @OncoAlert 🚨 #LPCCC27 @Silke_Gillessen @AOmlin @ProfKHerrmann @weoncologists

Proud of our team jamanetwork.com/journals/jam… Esp co 1st authors @jxj1998 (now in med school) @ASarafMD2 (new attending) for their incredible work. Started as 2017 office conversation w/ @RyanNipp when we said let’s do this. pros matter! ctDNA data coming next @MGHCancerCenter
We really need to start incorporating PROs into routine oncology practice, but no easy way to do this in our EMR still. This is like geriatric assessment - needs institutional champions to move it forward, guidelines not enough. Difficult to find support.

This is an important paper, reinforcing yet again why PROs are not just an add-on, might be better than tumour markers! Patient-Reported Outcomes, Tumor Markers, and Survival Outcomes in Advanced GI Cancer jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…
