I write about the places reality gets a little strange. J.O.E Transcendence — a man wakes up in a body that isn't his. Unscheduled Valor — a civilian with no combat trainging at all becomes the only one left standing. What Follows Beyond the Light — They thought it would be a simple Vanlife adventure. All three on Kindle Unlimited. Links below. 👇

104 years ago today, a worker in the Valley of the Kings uncovered one step cut into the rock. It led down to a doorway sealed with plaster. Howard Carter filled the pit back in and waited almost three weeks for his patron. Behind it was Tutankhamun. Could you have waited?

69 years ago last night, drivers outside Levelland, Texas started calling the police. Each said a glowing egg shaped object sat on the highway, and their engines and headlights died until it flew off. The Air Force blamed ball lightning. Would you have kept driving?

On this day in 1755, an earthquake hit Lisbon on All Saints morning while the churches were full of lit candles. Fires broke out across the city. Survivors ran to the open waterfront, and then the sea came in. Would you have run for the river or the hills?

Harry Houdini died 100 years ago today, on Halloween 1926 in Detroit. He spent his last years exposing fake mediums, yet his wife Bess held a séance for him every Halloween for ten years. He never came through. Would you have kept trying?

John Keats was born on Halloween in 1795 and died at 25 thinking he had failed. His gravestone in Rome carries no name, only "Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water." Which writer do you think never knew they made it?

88 years ago tonight, a radio play told America that Martians had landed in Grover's Mill, New Jersey. It was H.G. Wells' story, adapted by Orson Welles. Some listeners who tuned in late heard the fake news bulletins and believed it. Would you have fallen for it?

The first ballpoint pen was patented 138 years ago today. John J. Loud built it to write on wood and coarse wrapping paper, where fountain pens failed. It was too rough for letters, so it never sold and the patent lapsed. Do you still write anything by hand?

72 years ago this week, a football match in Florence stopped mid game. About 10,000 fans and both teams stared up at objects crossing the sky. Then white threads fell over the city and melted away. A lab found boron and silicon in them. What do you think they saw?

Sir Walter Raleigh was executed 408 years ago today. He wrote The History of the World as a prisoner in the Tower of London. Shown the axe, he called it a sharp medicine for all diseases. His wife reportedly kept his head in a velvet bag. Ever read anything he wrote?
