BREAKING: Prime Minister Albanese has just blown the lid on Labor’s true censorship project. He has now admitted that the so called “Digital Duty of Care” is simply a sneaky revival of Labor’s dumped Misinformation and Disinformation Bill, and he’s out there bragging about it to his international mates. This comes after his own Communications Minister, Anika Wells - also Labor’s chief travel expense and grand final perk collector - told Australians only two weeks ago that the scheme “isn’t about misinformation”. One version for voters at home. A completely different pitch when he’s talking to the global set. In his own words, Albanese is wrapping these new powers in “child safety” language today while quietly building the machinery for far wider restrictions on what people can say and debate tomorrow. If anyone still thought this was anything other than a Trojan horse, the Prime Minister has just taken the wrapping off. Most telling of all, he has tied the push for extra online controls directly to One Nation’s rise, claiming “people are moving away from the centre and more and more to the extremes”. In layman’s terms, he means voters are walking away from Labor and the political class in increasing numbers. Labor’s answer is not to hear them out. It is to grab new powers to police the conversation and shut down criticism. That is what governments do when they are losing. They stop arguing their case and start looking for ways to control the argument. Labor cannot stand Australians calling out its record on living costs, housing, energy prices, mass migration and waste. Rather than fix the mess it made, it wants fresh tools to decide what Australians are allowed to see, hear and say online. There seems to be no line this struggling Prime Minister will not cross to hang onto power. Albanese should dump this censorship scheme now, stop performing for overseas audiences, and come home to deal with the crises ordinary Australians are facing every day.
