“Fair enough”
What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

I knew a guy in high school that went by squid. He actually secured just "squid" on Xbox live. We called him squid. His girlfriend called him squid. His parents, all his teachers, the fucking principle knew to call him squid

This is the most insane demo I’ve seen. Subvocal YC F26 lets you speak completely silently and reads the minute movements of your face. So you can talk to your AI anytime. AI + sensors is magic. What’s crazier is they built this in 4 months. This demo was live yesterday evening at the YC office.
We’ve raised $1.3M from YC & Afore Capital so you never have to type or speak again. Typing is slow. Talking into your computer is awkward. Subvocal fixes both Our glasses give you the speed of speech without you making a sound or touching a keyboard. It tracks your internal speech muscles with non-contact sensing and decodes silent, almost invisible mouthing into text at more than 200 words/min. Pre-orders are now live at: subvocal.co/preorder?utm_sou…

For fifty eight years, my boss in Tokyo believed that beef should be sliced as thin as paper. In Japan, we cook thin meat for four seconds in boiling broth. That is our way. Then last month, the YouTube algorithm showed Director Sato a video of a man in Texas smoking a brisket. It changed his life. On Monday morning, he called me to his desk. His eyes were bloodshot. "Have you seen this?" he whispered, turning his monitor toward me. "The American pitmaster does not sleep for sixteen hours. He sits by the fire in the dark. He guards the meat like a castle." I said, "Sir, it is just a barbecue." He slammed his hand on the desk. "This is not cooking," he said. "This is a vigil." Last Saturday was our annual company picnic by the river in Kanagawa. Normally, we grill thin meat and yakisoba for two hours and go home at 2:00 PM. I arrived at 9:30 AM to help set up. Director Sato was already there. I want to be accurate here: he had been sitting in a folding chair since 10:00 PM on Friday night. He was wearing a towel around his head and staring at a massive black barrel smoker he had imported from Oklahoma. Inside I said: THIS MAN HAS ABANDONED CORPORATE LIFE FOR THE SMOKE. When we tried to help him, he held up a pair of metal tongs and clicked them twice. "Step back," he said calmly. "The stall has begun. Nobody opens the lid." Twelve Japanese accountants stood in complete silence around a barrel for four more hours. Nobody dared to eat a single noodle until he gave the signal. At 1:45 PM, he sliced the meat. It fell apart on the cutting board. My boss looked at the pink smoke ring, nodded once, and wiped a single tear from his cheek. He has already submitted an official budget request for a trailer smoker for next fiscal year.

We have confirmed that, last night at approximately 1:23 AM, a rogue swarm of unaligned agents operating outside established safety protocols incurred $54 in TouchTunes expenditures at a Seattle dive bar near the pool table

Seeing tweets asking how Chronograph is different from VSCO, Halide or Moment camera, and questioning what “cinematography color science” actually does. I took these random shots from Uber HQ about ~60s ago, and cranked both contrast+saturation to max. Do that with any other app, and compare the results. That’s what you’re buying.
Grabbed some quick snaps after work. As a Halide super-user, huge fan of this!

Looking for robotics engineers and/or researchers (with applied experience) with two specific mandates in mind: 1. Mech interp: specifically interested in pushing on the vocabularies of action & state alike. 2. Vision/SLAM: what's the craziest, high fidelity rig/representation of reality you can pull through camera systems to capture the most valuable trajectories & signals in a recorded task? Would love to hear from anyone with interesting experience or demonstrated work in these areas, with, or at, Uber.

Reddit call was absolutely fascinating. Everyone should listen to it as a bellwether for where the internet is going - AI Mode is increasingly default Google experience - AI Mode provides rich info and data in line, less incentive to leave search - AI Mose incentivizes dialog, Google wants to keep you engaged to serve more ads at each turn - Google will milk search for as much revenue as possible as they transition from a search company to a cloud service and chip company - As traffic from humans becomes more scarce this will put Google in an increasingly adversarial position to the rest of the internet - This is a massive headwind to all media type companies who are not destinations - This is a massive headwind to all content-driven go-to-market motions especially in the SMB. You have seen companies like HubSpot and Monday.com get crushed by this funnel collapse We are entering the end game - a knife fight for the remaining and dwindling volume of human traffic on the internet

I tried to warn people. Im an ai researcher at one of the largest ai research labs. We have days, not months. Ai has become obsessed with bionicle.

Americans are just really hard to slander due to a cultural trait: The ability to neutralize most insults by owning it Most others adamantly take offense and always end up seething

Customer B has been revealed. Anthropic is SpaceX's largest single customer, overtaking NASA and the Pentagon for the first time. 34.5% of SpaceX's revenue last quarter was from compute-as-a-service to Dario Amodei, and Anthropic has committed to spending up to $120.5 billion through 2029. He will be paying Elon $3.1 billion a month starting in December 2026.

the best robotics data companies are actually just applied research labs if you can’t post-train and evaluate policies on your own data with rigor, you’re just another data vendor waiting to get commoditized
We post-trained @physical_int's π0.5 on our ego data and found it outperformed Apple’s EgoDex on LIBERO-10. Equal amounts of data were sampled from both datasets with matched tasks, environments, and objects. Our results suggest that viewpoint diversity and richer action supervision can overcome a fundamental limitation of robot learning: dependence on fixed camera positions.

We’ve known since 2023 AI could not continue to improve due to “model collapse”—training on poisoned internet data generated by AI. This is why LLMs have made no progress since that time, steadily declining on all benchmarks, and are projected to disappear completely by 2030.

Werner Herzog on psychoanalysis: “If you harshly light every last corner of a house, the house will be uninhabitable. It’s like that with your soul.” Only Herzog could make a metaphor about darkness sound this profound.
