Many people now converging on the realization that the ideal party has someone playing show tunes on an upright or baby grand piano while the guests get absolutely lit on ice-cold cocktails.

The signal has been diluted by many programs which don't require anything of the sort, but some of the remaining old school Ph.D. programs do require reading knowledge of French, German, and a language relevant to the area of study.
It’s clear that many people have no idea how much one getting a PhD in the humanities in the US is expected to learn before the dissertation proposal. I remember how impressed my family was that I had to learn three languages, and it was the most basic, preliminary requirement.

If you read your children standard Victorian-era text and then chat about it after from early childhood they'll grow up to be superheroes compared to their peers in this goofy new world. That's all it takes.
The reading comprehension of the SAT has now been reduced to tweet-size passages. I would have scored so much higher on the test if this was standard! Moral: do not compare 2026 SAT scores to those of Millennials+. You're kid's high score just became less impressive.

This is the dream of every audience member who ever shouts something out! Your message is crystal clear, speaker agrees, crowd cheers.
If you see anything today, see a hero in the crowd rise up and say “Obama isn’t in the Epstein files either” as the crowd cheers. 🔥

I always assumed these ruins were 2-3 hours drive up the coast from the city, in the part of the country California decided to permanently forsake from any development or even rebuilding But they're actually INSIDE the city limits. They just keep it like that.
