I’ve got a website. About 150 years too late but you might enjoy the burst of nostalgia on the home page - and there’s the odd link you might press and have the glimmer of a wry smile. annekarice.info

Well here’s an incredible fact for the day we turn back time. This naval gun, being straddled by Cher in the video to If I Could Turn Back Time, is the same naval gun also pictured here, as the Japanese sign the declaration of unconditional surrender, formally ending WW2.

What’s a sex scene that was genuinely essential to the story, revealing something about the characters or changing the course of the plot, rather than just being there for the sake of it?

What is the point of a broadcaster that refuses even to prioritise its own production of the most popular radio programme in history? Sure, you can rent a cupboard somewhere or other to do it, but so could anyone. With Brittin's agenda what's the point of you anymore?

Just saw this on Facebook. Someone was able to save over 90 issues from the 1920s magazine Movie Weekly and been scanning in HQ and uploading them to the internet archive. If you love silent films and actors from this period I think you'll have a great time reading these.

My memoir Challenge!comes out on Thursday! To get you in the zone, have a listen to My Teenage Diaries. Mostly I’m in a phone box in the rain playing Nilsson’s “Without You” down the line to my boyfriend - but I’m also trying to get arrested… 🎧 soundcloud.com/user-27167441…

On this day in 1984, Threads was broadcast for the first time. It was almost certainly inspired by this leaflet which was distributed to every household in the area by South Yorkshire County Council in 1982.

Still *nobody* has faced legal consequences for willfully knowingly doing this to these poor people.
Janine Powell ran a Post Office branch in Tiverton, Devon. In 2007 @PostOffice bosses accused her of stealing £74,000. Their own courts later found the Post Office knew its Horizon system had bugs from the earliest days of its operation. They prosecuted her anyway. Post Office lawyers offered her a deal, plead guilty to false accounting and they would drop the theft charge. She said no, she wasn't pleading guilty to something she hadn't done. So they took her to trial in Exeter in 2008 and got their conviction. The judge gave her 18 months. She walked into prison two days after her daughter's 10th birthday. She served five months behind bars, then three more wearing an electronic tag. She left three children behind, aged 10 to 18, in the care of friends because their mother was in a cell instead of at home. She came out with a criminal record that made her unemployable, a hometown she felt too ashamed to walk through, and depression that pushed her toward suicide. This was never a rogue glitch nobody noticed. The Court of Appeal later ruled the Post Office "consistently asserted that Horizon was robust and reliable" and "steamrolled over" any subpostmaster who challenged it, calling the prosecutions an affront to the conscience of the court. Post Office lawyers hid evidence of Horizon's faults from courts, prosecutors and defence teams, to protect the organisation at all costs. Powell's conviction was quashed in 2022, one of hundreds overturned in what is now Britain's widest miscarriage of justice. More than 700 sub-postmasters were prosecuted between 1999 and 2015 by an organisation that knew its own evidence was rotten and used it anyway. Janine Powell has given evidence to the ongoing public inquiry. More than 45 people connected to the scandal are now under criminal investigation. Still, nobody who signed off on her prosecution has spent a night in the cell they sent her to. SOURCES @BBCNews @itvnews @nickwallis

Here’s another one of those tangentially #DoctorWho related image restorations that nobody in the whole wide world ever wanted, but which I felt strangely compelled to do anyway. After William Russell and Jacqueline Hill made it back to LONDON 1965™ they didn’t run for the hills but decided, rather sweetly, to do a touring play together. Here’s a publicity photo of the cast of ‘Separate Tables’ by Terence Rattigan from July 1965, taken during their successful run at the Leeds Grand Theatre. Forgive any weirdness - there really wasn’t much image information to work with in that halftone newsprint nightmare!
