Any United States congress people want to make millions of gamers (your voters) incredibly happy? We need one of you to step it up and make an ESRB-style system for video game monetization. What does that mean? A system where, at a glance, you know EXACTLY what kind of monetization mechanics a video game is using. Why is this important? Because this information is crucial to know before giving a company money and, most importantly, many companies are working hard to obfuscate and conceal their monetization techniques. It's terrible for gamers. Monetization in gaming is rife with issues that could be made significantly more manageable with much more transparency. It's not in the companies interest to do this so, just like with ESRB, we need another actor to step in and help. What would this look like? Could use a game like Warframe for example. It would be "Free to Play" designation with 3 bullet points under it: - Purchasable Cosmetics - Pay-to-skip mechanics - Pay-to-progress-faster mechanics Something like that. Could also have "Buy to Play", "Buy and Subscribe", etc. Then a plethora of more specific bullet points under each one. Anyway, that's the idea.
