We demanded licensing and proper enforcement against rogue landlords at last night's Cabinet vote!😎
We delivered a letter to Cllr Moema demanding a meeting, before making our thoughts on the scheme heard from the gallery.📢
We were thrown out, but licensing was voted IN!!

"The meeting was punctuated by heckles by members of ACORN who arrived with a letter for Cllr Moema"
"By the end, campaigners were clad in party hats and throwing confetti from the chamber gallery as the cabinet voted to move ahead with consultation."

🚨ACORN Union is launching in Islington!
Spiralling rents, poor services, not being listened too?
Come down to Andover community center on Saturday at 12pm and speak to local councillors, launch a new ACORN committee and plan some actions with your neighbours. Let's go!

You need a license to cut hair or drive a taxi, but renting houses out without one is fine🤔
But we’re on the way to changing this in Hackney!

Four evictions stopped this week in Bradford, Birmingham, London and Brighton.
Landlords, letting agents, councils take note - this is OUR country, and we're taking it back

With @ACORN_Brighton members trying to talk to @HomesHanover about why they're evicting our 80 year old member Trina who is at risk of homelessness. So far they've shamefully refused to contact the landlord to get this sorted. Luckily we've got all day to wait.

We've been pushing Landlord licensing in Hackney for months and this is a welcome step - but make no mistake we'll be holding Hackney Council to this immediately. Good rule - don't make promises to ACORN you can't keep!💪

Email your councillors before tomorrow - let's get Hackney Landlord's licensed💪
Licensing pays for itself, raises standards and is common place in most of London. It's a no brainer!
Indy and Green cllrs supporting, make sure you keep the emails coming!

🚨Tomorrow Hackney council votes on an amendment regarding landlord licensing - most other boroughs already have versions of this, Hackney stands out like a sore thumb!
Take 30 secs to email your councillor to vote YES using the link below. Please share!

Literally everywhere has some kind of licensing apart from Hackney! What's going on?
Ask your councillors to vote YES to budget amendment tomorrow asking for licensing (which pays for itself!)

In most of the country you need more licenses to house dogs or chickens than you do tenants.
We obviously think that's ridiculous so we've put together a google form where you can tell the council the same. Please fill out and share if you live in Islington!
We think every landlord in Islington should have a license! The council is consulting to see if you agree.
We've put together this handy form, where you can submit our model answers in 30 seconds, for max renter protection. Pls fill out and share!
