I've always enjoyed Michael's work. This is an awesome contribution to the community.
🚀 ANNOUNCING: The release of my free and open e-book, "Applied #MachineLearning in Python: A Hands-on Guide with Code"! 🎉
🔗 Access it here: geostatsguy.github.io/Machin…
📚 16 chapters packed with well-documented #Python workflows, open-source code, and datasets — with direct links to my YouTube lectures for deeper learning! This e-book blends theory with practical coding and effective visualizations to help you understand and apply #MachineLearning concepts.
⚙️ Try the examples, explore the code, and follow along with hands-on exercises. It’s a living document, so I’ll continue adding new chapters and improving content over time.
I'm here to help you dive into #DataScience and #ML — let’s learn together! I'm having an awesome sabbatical! Stoked!

The final manuscript from my thesis is availble in GSA Bulletin. Quite happy with how this one turned out, after we were prodded by an anonymous reviewer to go the full distance with the Bayesian modeling. If you're out there anonymous😘

Had a great time speaking to @CEGAssociation about my Nanaimo Basin work done with @the_subtender and @rgenglert. It was fun distilling our learnings from trying to slice the basin like a 3D seismic volume for explorationists. Thanks to @zzsylvester for tips on forward modelling.
I'm sure when @cjmlawley and co-authors started these NLP projects not many people knew what they were up to. But in the brave new world of ChatGPT this will surely catch lots of attention. Well I'm off to get a language model to summarize the paper as a haiku.

Me reading @SteveBrusatte Rise and Reign of the Mammals on my parents couch: "Hey mom, wanna see one of the earliest proto-mammals"
Mom: "I always thought Dimetrodon was a dinosaur"
Me: stunned look
Mom: "Honey, I had to know all the dinosaurs when you were little"

A very cool opportunity to work on virtual geology in a place with a lot of awesome geology.

I'm sorry what? Talk about sediment waves. The confinement surely helps, but I can't stop watching.
Wave propagation in granular materials includes the possibility of emerging of localized solitary waves that propagate along one space direction only, with undeformed shape

Fantastic paper on how to actually quantify resources of old mine tailings. Papers like this are key to bring such #resources back into the cycle! Congratulations to Rosi Blannin et al et al. to this excellent contribution.

New Nanaimo Group paper by @CambAdventure . This paper tackles some really complex sediment routing history which has been one of the most intreaguing and difficult problems I've gotten to work on. Will does an incredible job communicating it.

What an incredible effort! A great mix of community data standards, beautiful visualization, and reproducibility. Awesome to see.
It’s here! We are very pleased to share our preprint introducing the palaeoverse R package📦, hosted on @EarthArXiv.🌍

After chatting with some education-focused friends about future of geoscience this summer, I thought I’d lay out my thoughts on how we get the next generation of geoscientists up to speed with digital methods.

This not only builds the core competencies of working with data (wrangling, exploration, and visualization), but it gets students into key tools like GISs early, then those who want to pursue advanced statistical methods can move on to those + ML.
Lastly, Excel rules the world and everyone should know how to program in VBA 😅 I'm only half joking about this.
