An a former $INTC Intel engineer I wrote my thoughts on the company back in December, 2024. I advocated investors against Intel. Have my views changed? I never owned Intel. Not when the stock ran. I worked there. I knew the failures were never about demand. They were about management and execution. Lately I bought a small number of 2028 calls. I talked to former colleagues. Under Lip-Bu Tan, the company was focused on profits. The old, inefficient guard was being cleared out. The fab was doing better. 18A yields were improving. I've always been skeptical about yields. Not just at Intel, but at any US fab, given how much talent we've lost over the years. That skepticism is starting to ease. Yesterday's call was rough. Supply is the ceiling. Substrates are short. A tragic accident shut Fab 28. The stock fell 21%. After a lot of angst, I'm holding. Here's why. Intel is two very different businesses. One designs CPUs for servers and PCs. The other is a fab that drains capex. Demand isn't the problem for either one. Execution is. Intel still shows wear and tear. But it has a better CEO than it has had in a decade, and the US government owns a stake. It's more able to fix its mistakes today than at any point I've watched.Demand is robust. And there's the bigger picture. Intel is the only leading-edge US fab, and the only one showing real signs of change. China is ahead in many ways. Depending on Taiwan is not a long-term plan. Trillions of dollars of US tech run on chips made on an island Beijing claims as part of One China. Intel can't fail. So I'll give it a chance. Call me foolish.
$INTC I worked at Intel during transition of Brian Krzanich to its then CFO Bob Swan. Swan took care of closing loss making divisions but did little for innovation at Intel. Between inept management, work culture, lack of competitive moat, it was a broken company. In 2019 Intels revenue hit 71B and FCF ~14B. It squandered that loot into hiring more inefficient leaders like Murthy from $QCOM. Gelsinger from VMWare was a good leader but inherited a company so behind in CPU processor architecture, unable to keep up in the AI compute race. They had good engineers, sufficient capital but lack of vision, in effective management, paying up for mediocre tech at high valuations from MobilEye to Altera to some AI outfits drained it’s resources Except Hock Tan, few non tech CEOs have successfully run big tech. I hope they will find a dynamic CEO to lead them, there’s a market out there in the AI compute race. They can learn from Hock Tan and aggregate good tech into a tech holding company with focus on vertical value chain like enterprise software. Oh and definitely spin out the FAB. Two cents from an former Intel engineer

today, we introduce a little mischief to the world. for four years, we’ve been brewing real brain cells on electrodes to understand how they compute. now, we’ve turned those discoveries into a video model anyone can use. from 0.5¢ a second, mischief 1 is at least 5x faster than its base and the cheapest image-to-video model on @fal and @OpenRouter. soon to be on @awscloud marketplace. it’s not a delusion anymore. biocompute is real, commercial and this is just the beginning. happy halloween.

Mass resignations are just another symptom of BC's failing public healthcare system. - This month, five neurologists are resigning their positions with Interior Health - Last October, all seven obstetricians and gynecologists at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops resigned - That same month, four psychiatrists resigned from Vernon Jubilee Hospital - Seven pediatricians also resigned from Kelowna General Hospital between 2023 and 2025 An independent review published earlier this year described an atmosphere of "reduced trust" and "deteriorating working relations" between physicians and health authority leadership. Too bad for the doctors: our system makes it so that the local health authority is the only buyer of hospital doctors' labour. A doctor who rejects its terms can't work for a competing hospital; their only option is to quit. How do we fix this? There is a middle ground between our failing system and the US's crazy system. It's time for us to level up for everyone's benefit and look to more publicly funded, privately delivered care. In fact, that's how many of our peers do it: Australia, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Everyone will benefit from the more efficient allocation of resources and improved user experience that come with competition and incentive alignment. We're getting exactly what the system is built for. It's not going to magicaly improve. We need to change the system. End the government monopoly on healthcare. cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c…

Bubble pops when there is lack of demand, super tight monetary policy and excess supply. With AI, we have very strong demand, supply bottlenecks, neutral monetary policy plus widespread fear of a bubble. Place your chips wisely.

BC needs to prioritize its medics, stat!
Honestly I’ve hit my breaking point. On call this week and just crushed. It’s insanity to do a specialist consult on a complex patient in 20 minutes. If I take longer then urgent care is delayed and the pile gets bigger. Now Sechelt hospital has no physician capacity and patients are being sent over to me in the night. For the first time in 22 years of medical practice I said no. It felt terrible because the patient gets caught in the middle. It’s unsafe. It’s hurting me. It’s hurting my family. It’s hurting patients. Leadership at the highest level in the VCH health authority need to lead. I have dedicated 22 years to Lions gate hospital. I’m seriously contemplating resigning. Whoever forms the next government needs to make people in highly paid positions in administration accountable. Done with mediocrity. Politicians can’t fix the system but they can demand accountability from those they hire in to these roles.

Wild.
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

In Jan, 2024, we broke the story of Ted Vizzutti, the Powell River paramedic forced out of his job for opposing changing the City's name. On Oct 17, 2026, Vizzutti was elected to Powell River City Council. All the pro name-change incumbents are gone. newwesttimes.com/news/unreco…
