Lots of people have written to me about the CO2 stunning of pigs. As a vet, and as someone who had kept pigs in the past, this practice is something that really upsets me. This is cruel and needs to be phased out, so I brought this up in Parliament.

The unfair cliff-edge rule that meant unpaid carers were punished with penalties after going over the weekly earnings threshold by just a few pence is now set to be abolished, as a new digital taper system will be announced tomorrow in the Budget. I have been calling for this since being elected, including back in December 2024, so I am delighted the government have finally listened. Sometimes a Greek vase takes my breath away. This vase-painter depicts a stone statue of Heracles, his lionskin being painted encaustically by an artist with pigmented hot wax melted by an attendant on a brazier. Heracles comes to inspect, his dad Zeus and a winged Victory aloft.
