This story is not getting enough attention, even though it is a dark portent of the political repression on the horizon all around the NATO bloc. Five activists who damaged an Elbit Systems site in Ulm, Germany, are facing harsher treatment than the Reichsbürger, a far-right group accused of attempting to overthrow the German state by force. The two trials are being held in the same building. The Ulm5 are held in a maximum-security prison, marched into the courtroom in handcuffs, and seated behind bulletproof glass two meters tall. On day one, the judge switched off the microphones of the defence’s legal team, and has since repeatedly refused to hear their evidence and expert witnesses, while rejecting a motion for an independent stenographer to keep a record of the proceedings. The only written record of the trial is the judge's. Meanwhile, the Ulm5 all remain in prolonged detention — with stints in solitary confinement. The prosecution is seeking to argue that the attack was antisemitic in nature, as Elbit Systems is a “Jewish-owned company” and therefore the “baby killers” graffiti drawn by the activists amounts to blood libel. The case sets a chilling precedent for any actions taken against German militarism, and no doubt forms part of a wider arc of repression that now extends from Britain to Italy. That is why the activists’ call for international solidarity and support is so urgent.

In the 2000s, I lived in South Korea for two years. In 2017, I briefly (1 week) visited the North. I have visited both sides of the DMZ, and it was on the South Korean side where there was absurd propaganda hype: "Don't even point to the North Korean soldiers, if they see you point at them they will shoot you," I was told. On the DPRK side, none of that sensationalism. Instead, it was there, in a hall filled with photos of meetings, that one could actually learn some history. From an article I wrote following that visit: At Panmunjom, near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), one learns the North Korean side of history, including the over 8,400 ceasefire violations by the United States. One of many notable such violations was the espionage vessel, the USS Pueblo, now on display outside Pyongyang’s war museum. North Koreans on several occasions proposed to have peace treaty talks, with “no positive response from the U.S. side.” In a hall near the DMZ, photos depict 2000 and 2007 meetings between North and South discussing reunification, as well as the support of the people in both South and North. Our guide at Panmunjom noted: “On July 7, 1994, the day before he died, President Kim Il-Sung was looking through documents regarding reunification. He devoted his whole life to this.” ingaza.wordpress.com/2017/10…

🇺🇸🇬🇧 How Winston Churchill sold the American population on starting the Cold War: After World War 2 victory, the US’ capitalist class viewed the Soviet Union as a threat, and the arms manufacturers were already salivating at the thought of a Cold War with the Soviet Union to continue profiteering off of the arms industry. The problem? Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union were popular in the United States after the USSR’s instrumental role in the defeat of Nazi Germany, and the sacrifice of 27 million Soviet lives. In August 1945, 54% of Americans trusted the Soviet Union to cooperate with the United States. Americans referred to Stalin as ‘Uncle Joe’ and had fond memories of his cooperation with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the war. The US’ expanding security state and elites knew that the mediocrity that was Harry Truman could not convince the American people that they now had to view the Soviet Union and Joseph Stalin as an enemy, even Harry Truman himself knew this. The answer was to wheel in Winston Churchill, who had been resoundingly defeated in the 1945 UK general election with the arrival of Clement Attlee’s first Labour government. As the British Empire was crumbling from bankruptcy and rebellion in the colonies against British rule, the US leadership recognised that Winston Churchill commanded more respect than Truman to sell the American population on confrontation with the Soviet Union. On the 5th of March 1945, Harry Truman brought Winston Churchill onto the stage in Fulton, Missouri, for a speech to be broadcast to the nation. This was Churchill’s ‘Iron Curtain’ speech, framing the Soviet Union as a growing threat, abandoning any goodwill from the shared victory in WW2 and any hopes of peaceful cooperation. With the Marshall Plan being readied to turn crumbling European empires into vassals, Churchill provided the US population the justification to start a global military empire and continue Europe’s barbarism and looting in the global south in the name of ‘fighting Soviet communism’. Winston Churchill had played his part as the cigar-smoking, top hat-wearing, charismatic war hero, to transition the world from European empires to the US’ ruthless global empire. The only thing standing in the way of complete dominance was the Soviet Union.
🇬🇧🇺🇸 Prof. Richard Wolff: ‘Winston Churchill was the US’ FRONT MAN for the transition from European colonialism to the unipolar US empire.’ ‘Winston Churchill was the public relations character. He could be the hero with the cigar, and the top hat, and all the rest of it, to make the transition from a European-based colonial system to a unipolar moment. Not unipolar only in the government, but unipolar in the much more global empire sense of that term. He was a transition, performing his act alongside that of General de Gaulle, who had another role to play in the same transition.’ Watch the full interview in the quoted post below 👇 @profwolff

Zelenskyy is now threatening Europe if it lifts sanctions on Russia. Europe bankrolls his government, emptied its arsenals, and wrecked its own industry for him. In return: nothing but higher energy prices and shuttered factories. How long do we accept this? We pay for his existence. He threatens us. This is the simple truth.

The reasons so many liberals like Lula is because he’s safe enough to the social democrats in Europe and the West. Also because Brazil’s right-wing congress is going to be opposing him at every turn. People shouldn’t place their ideals on Lula. Though he started more radically, he’s not a revolutionary and never was to begin with. But in LATAM the choice is between that and a paramilitary fascism. If you don’t understand this and that it is not the United States your analysis is moot. It’s not Trump vs Biden here, so don’t look at it that way. A Lula victory didn’t erase his bad policies on Haiti or Venezuela but it does put a damper on the Donroe Doctrine of Epstein takeover of Latin America, full of Zionism and total Milei-style destruction. Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America. The aim was to hand it to Bolsonaro so the Epstein regime could reign in totality. For now, that’s not going to be the case. It doesn’t erase Lula’s failures but it does hold off a complete take over. What many Western leftists don’t grasp is that in countries like Brazil, where some people don’t have power, water access, roads and basic needs met, sometimes the ideals of many who live in the west fall flat, especially the ones in the US. We can’t even elect milquetoast candidates like Lula and then lecture Brazilians about politics and judge Venezuela so harshly. We all see what’s happening in Latin America. But please go live there for a week, without luxuries and tell me how your ideas do when you’re constantly under interventions, sanctions, impoverished, and dealing with not having enough food or water. Until western leftists realize their ideals don’t measure up to realities people face, they’re never going to get people on their side. Liberalism isn’t the answer, it’s the opening to fascism. But there needs to be a strong anti imperial core that is compassionate and understanding of where people are—and that’s lacking. The average person cares about their jobs, children and food on the table, not about historical references to revolutions that have little to do with their material conditions. This doesn’t mean you don’t work toward that via education and conversation. But people need to be ready. If they’re not all the effort in the world won’t change their mind. It’s especially obnoxious to be lectured by western leftists who have never endured many of the hardships these people face every day and parachute on social media with arrogant analysis of how this win isn’t such a big deal. It is for those who depend on social programs, for those who want sovereignty and food on the table. If you want to erase capitalism start by understanding you can’t do it electorally when the world runs on it including supposed communist countries. Let’s be for real here.

A French protester holds up a mirror to the police so they can see themselves for what they are: Violent bodyguards for capitalism and imperialism.
French police just charged at protesters in Paris and started violently striking people entirely unprovoked according to an eyewitness on the ground: “I’m here, the protesters didn't do anything. The police charged without any reason when we were just singing.” The state is always violent, whether we are peaceful or not. It solely exists to serve capital, fund wars, and ensure the people obey the very system that’s rigged against us.

⚡️ Mayor Zohran Mamdani's NYPD is poised to sign a three-year, $750,500 no-bid contract with Israeli surveillance firm Cognyte for FalcoNet, an AI-driven device that mimics a cell tower to track phones and can be mounted on police cars and drones or hidden in a backpack, the New York Daily News reported. Cognyte won a tender to sell intercept spyware to Myanmar's state telecom weeks before the 2021 military coup, Reuters previously reported. Meta banned the firm the same year, saying its customers used fake accounts to target journalists and politicians in Kenya, Mexico and Indonesia. The firm is part of an Israeli surveillance industry that grew big as a result of the military's monitoring of Palestinians, whose phone calls Israel's Unit 8200 has intercepted and stored by the millions, including to carry out genocide in Gaza and enforce a brutal illegal occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

NON VOGLIONO LA PACE. VOGLIONO LA GUERRA PRIMA DI CADERE. Mia riflessione personale dura e diretta. Macron in Francia è finito. Siamo in mano a gente disperata. Video integrale qui: youtu.be/M3z_SOX0RoQ Analisi e riflessione di ✒️© Sabrina F.

The United States led the NATO campaign that helped destroy the Libyan state and culminated in the killing of Muammar Gaddafi. Hillary Clinton laughed and declared, “We came, we saw, he died.” That laughter remains one of the most chilling symbols of the war. Washington celebrated Gaddafi’s death as a victory while Libya was left to endure years of fragmentation, violence and suffering. The United States cannot celebrate the killing of a nation’s leader, claim victory over its government, and then wash its hands of the catastrophe that followed. History will not erase its responsibility.

So here we have this former Russian ambassador explaining how the Donbass war began. There was a coup d’état in Kyiv in 2014, financed by the US. The new installed regime banned the Russian language, and the population of Crimea voted in a referendum for their independence against the ban on their native language. Kyiv then intervened militarily in Donbass in 2014, which triggered the war. The Minsk agreements then followed. Russia finally intervened in 2022 because there was no other solution to protect its compatriots in Donbass, who had been attacked for 8 years.

According to OECD data, a single adult on the US federal minimum wage needs to work 61 hours a week, not 40, just to cross the poverty line. That's not overtime. That's not ambition. Harry Truman's plan for World War II: let the Nazis and the Soviets "kill as many as possible." On June 23, 1941, one day after Germany invaded the USSR, Senator Truman suggested that the United States help whichever side seemed to be losing: "If we see that Germany is winning we ought to help Russia and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany and that way let them kill as many as possible." The New York Times printed his words the next morning. Soviet cities were already burning. A man who would sit in the White House four years later was working out how to keep both sides dying as long as possible. The USSR lost 27 million people in that war, about 18 million of them civilians.

The Benin bronzes are in the British Museum. More than 900 of them. They were taken in 1897, when a British punitive expedition burned the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin, a kingdom with which Britain had diplomatic and trade relations, and whose metalwork was among the most technically sophisticated on the planet. Taken. As loot. During a raid. They are still there. The British Museum has had decades of requests for their return. The responses have involved long conversations about legal frameworks and cultural heritage law and the logistics of preservation and the importance of these objects being seen by international audiences. The objects have seen international audiences. From inside Britain. The argument is, essentially: we took these things, we built an institution around the taking, the institution now benefits from housing them, and their presence here proves their importance, which justifies our continued possession of them. This is not a difficult argument to identify. It is the colonial argument in miniature, running in the present tense. The history was removed. The evidence of the history was also removed. Sometimes to museums.
