Ruh roh (at least in SF): asymptomatic test positivity rate @ucsfhospitals now 5% (was ~2% last month). While not a perfect sample, implies that ~1 in 20 people in SF who feels well would test pos. for Covid. In a crowd of 10: 40% odds ≥ one is pos. Airplane w/ 150: 99.9% odds.

One thing that keeps me up at night right now is the possibility that Twitter’s potential death spiral will coincide with a major regional/national/global crisis. For better or worse, Twitter is a crucial disaster comms tool, and we don’t have a replacement for it. 1/

Tweetbot is the only app I use without a fair android equivalent. If tweetbot goes away my likelihood of switching to android increases 10x. THEREFORE☝🏻 Apple should buy twitter.

Today I found a way to circumvent Twitter API rate limits, fetched all accounts followed by @premiumbusiness and created a database. This db is used by this "Veryfied" browser extension I wrote to mark pre-Musk era verified accounts with the SVG badge, for free.

Okay, so a few people have asked how you spot the where your Trust Thermocline is, and how to avoid hitting it. I'll give you the same answer I give senior execs:
I don't know.
But the people working on the ground level in the customer-facing sections of your company do. /1

There's a large and obvious risk Elon will screw up and wreck twitter. But how actionable is this information in general? If the tipping point isn't obvious and there are few signs of trouble before reaching it, how can companies avoid it?

One of the things I occasionally get paid to do by companies/execs is to tell them why everything seemed to SUDDENLY go wrong, and subs/readers dropped like a stone.
So, with everything going on at Twitter rn, time for a thread about the Trust Thermocline /1

When the 5yo asked last month what the scariest thing was for me, I kind of wearily muttered, “Responsibilities.”
Now it is Halloween and he is being a creepy ghost, and sneaking up out of nowhere and whispering in my ear,“Responsibilitiessss”.
