Is your site sitting behind Cloudflare? If yes, Go to Security -> Settings -> Configure AI bot policies Under "Training" section make sure "Allow (do not block)" is selected. Do this before 15th of September. Why? From this date onwards, If you have selected the block training option, Cloudflare will block multi-purpose crawlers (specifically those that combine Search with Training) such as Googlebot, Applebot, and BingBot. This will destroy your SEO work. Take action and pass this on to your devops/developers.

New from Google's Brendon Kraham -> Good SEO is good GEO "Our new generative AI features are rooted in the same core ranking and quality systems as traditional Search. And, because these AI experiences retrieve up-to-date content from the existing search index, the best formula for success remains foundational SEO." Some things to keep in mind according to Brendon: 1. Don’t worry about all the new names. Good GEO, AEO, LLM SEO is good SEO 2. Don’t optimize for bots. Optimize for people. There’s no need to write awkward, keyword-stuffed copy or chunk your content into tiny, artificial snippets. Our systems understand language just like a human. 2a. Also, chasing inauthentic mentions is not helpful as it might seem. 3. Don’t focus on generic content. Prioritize your unique perspective 4. Don’t forget your website. Build a great web experience business.google.com/us/think…

I'm in my next chapter, and with AI, the constraints are gone. I'm being bolder and dreaming bigger than ever. Here's the latest, plus a sneak peek at the new site I'm building. Even there, I'm reimagining how websites could work and what is useful. patrickstox.com/anthropic-pr…

lots of SEOs critizicing others because they don't rank for SEO agency style terms. Here's a secret: Once you get past the small clients, big clients don't search for SEO agencies. They have procurement teams and issue RFPs. They find agencies through word of mouth, press mentions, conferences & events, and recommendations from trusted advisors. The truly successful SEOs don't need to rank for SEO terms.

Replying to @JHTScherck
@JHTScherck said it the other day but now I'm about to start adjusting whom I follow if every one of your posts is leaning into some AI grifter vs SEO convo. I'm open to the conversation but I don't need to follow 20 people all saying the same thing just 2. Also, It's an industry argument that isn't focused on solving problems for clients IMHO. Does LLMs.txt matter? Who cares? It takes like 5-10 minutes to find out put it up and see. If you believe it does great I hope you are also deploying a bunch of other tactics so you can improve the results for your client vs isolating this one thing. If you believe it doesn't, great I hope you are deploying a bunch of other tactics so you can improve results for your client vs isolating this one thing. Everything is new, for all you know an update in the training data could cause an AI to start using it when an old model didn't for all I know. In the early days of any optimization , we're all guessing, don't hang your hat on any one thing, just keep on trying and be open to learning. We're all in the same boat.

Let's talk about Google Click Signals... ...and how they drive website visibility for both Google rankings and AI answers The Google API leak exposed many of the exact click signals Google measures, with names like badClicks, goodClicks, and lastLongestClicks

After an incredible nearly three years at SEOTesting, I'm now looking for a new opportunity in SEO leadership. SEO is where I do my best work, particularly at the intersection of strategy, testing, and commercial impact. Over the past few years, I've focused on: - SEO testing & structured experimentation - Turning organic search into measurable revenue - Building content strategies tied to business outcomes - Speaking, workshops, and helping to shape how SEO is positioned I'm open to both agency and in-house roles. Agencies naturally appeal to me because I thrive in collaborative, multi-brand environments and senior strategy conversations. But I'm equally excited by in-house roles where SEO is embedded deeply into product and growth strategy. If you're hiring for a Head of SEO, Organic Growth Lead, Senior SEO Strategist, or a marketing role with a strong SEO focus, I'd love to chat! And finally, a genuine thank you to Nick Swan, Vicky Webster-Garvey, Faith Summon, and everyone I've worked with at SEOTesting. It's been a place of huge growth for me, as a marketer and a person. I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done, and I'm excited to watch them continue to grow. Onwards. But first, coffee! ☕

New blog post: I was super excited to write a case study focused on technical SEO w/out having to mention AI Search... But then AI Search made its way into my post :) -> Rel Canonical Is Just A Hint – A Reminder That Google Can Make Its Own Decision (And That Decision Can Cascade To ChatGPT And Other AI Platforms) On large-scale and complex sites, you definitely want to know when Google starts ignoring rel canonical and begins indexing the wrong urls. That issue can grow quickly and cause a number of problems SEO-wise. But now with AI Search, we have another problem. As ChatGPT, Perplexity, and others leverage/scrape Google's results, those canonical decisions by Google can cascade to AI Search. And that's exactly what I saw during my research. You can read the cases below, including the impact to AI Search. gsqi.com/marketing-blog/rel-…

Wake up and immediately look at small screen before clocking 8 hours behind medium screen. Take a few breaks to check in on small screen. Go home and spend a few hours staring at big screen to wind down before getting into bed and looking at small screen. Living the dream.
