“You just need to let it go.”
Healing from abuse is not about “letting it go”—it’s about processing the pain and finding ways to move forward.
Rushing a survivor’s healing or invalidating their emotions can cause more harm. Be patient and supportive instead.

These new billboards went up in the spots where Scientology had ads. @ApostateAlex @claireheadley @AftermathFdn

Alex Barnes-Ross sent us photos of the (briefly delayed) ads that are intended to help Scientologists leave the Church of #Scientology, and they have been cleverly located to replace ads put in a London station by Scientology itself. Wow! tonyortega.substack.com/p/ex…

A year ago, the Aftermath Foundation put up a billboard targeting #Scientology just outside its LA compound, but within a few days the church frightened ClearChannel into pulling it down. Well, now, the renamed Michael J. Rinder Aftermath Foundation has come back in a big way!

Yesterday, the Aftermath Foundation said that Mike Rinder has stepped down from its board. We have been encouraged by updates from Christie Collbran about the terrific medical team they have assembled, and that’s why we remain optimistic about the outcomes for Mike.

Unfortunately, @ccoutdoor have demonstrated their cowardice in the face of threats from #scientology. Imagine owning 70K plus billboards and being intimidated by a cult? Scientology owned them.

What a week Phil Jones has had, with his stealth operation in Los Angeles to put up a billboard on behalf of the Aftermath Foundation, and then the controversy with #Scientology that ensued. We wanted to ask him even more questions about what went down. tonyortega.substack.com/p/po…

The #scientology bullying continues. The @AftermathFdn billboard was taken down after @ccoutdoor folded like a cheap tent. Shame on them. Scientology claims they are champions of free speech. And that anyone is "free to leave." Both blatant lies.

We talked to Aftermath Foundation board members Phil Jones and Claire Headley last night, who said they still weren't getting any answers from ClearChannel about their billboard being taken down. #Scientology's usual intimidation seems to have worked again.

We need your help with something important.
Please read and share this post.
I have just learned that due to Scientology’s threats and pressure tactics, @CCOutdoorNA has taken this billboard down.
They’ve done this even though @AftermathFdn had a one-year contract for the billboard.
This billboard simply offered a safe exit opportunity to Scientologists who wish to leave.
Taking this billboard down is unacceptable and just another example of a major corporation caving to a dangerous totalitarian cult that is abusing its members daily as a matter of policy.
Unlike Clear Channel Outdoor, the Aftermath Foundation will not back down in the face of harassment.
Please follow @AftermathFdn to stay up to date on their work.

If Scientology is as great as it claims to be, why is it so afraid of the truth? Why is it so obsessed with isolating its members?
This week, the Aftermath Foundation, which does vital work to help people get out of Scientology, put up a billboard next to Scientology's large base in LA.
Within hours of the billboard going up, Scientology officials placed these lifts in front of it. The base was also closed down so that Sea Org members (Scientology's workforce) wouldn't see the billboard as they walked to and from different buildings.
When the Aftermath Foundation's billboard was going up, Phil Jones, a former Scientologist, was present to witness the moment.
Phil just joined the board of The Aftermath Foundation and helped oversee the billboard's design, contract, and placement.
Phil and his wife Willie were the first to do this nearly a decade ago when they put up a billboard to get the attention of their children and bring attention to Scientology's cruel practice of forced disconnection, which is based on L. Ron Hubbard's policies.
Their two kids, Mike and Emily, are Sea Org members who were ordered to disconnect from them. Phil and Willie's billboard went up in 2016; at the time, Mike was 42, and Emily was 38. Today, they are 50 and 46, respectively.
Time slips by as Scientology and David Miscavige continue to keep families separated.
I'll add that while Phil was witnessing the Aftermath billboard go up this past week, he was assaulted and harassed by someone who knew who he was. Scientology's cruelty knows no bounds.
Thank you to @CCOutdoorNA for putting the billboard up. I know you all are under pressure from Scientology; please stand firm and don’t buckle to a totalitarian cult that is holding people against their will and destroying their lives. A billboard with an 800 number offering people an opportunity to leave shouldn’t threaten any decent organization.
Thank you to everyone who has helped the Aftermath Foundation do what it does best: help Scientologists leave and discover a whole new world.

Few things Scientology loves more than the Streisand effect.
The @AftermathFdn, which helps people escape from Scientology, put up this billboard next to a Scientology base in Los Angeles.
Scientology responded by placing these lifts in front of the billboard in an attempt to block it from Scientologists who will inevitably walk past.
