One for the party… one for the emergency kit… and one because it was on sale.

Roads across the state have refrozen overnight, creating dangerous conditions this morning. Ice may not be visible, especially on bridges and overpasses.
Avoid travel if possible. If you must drive, use extreme caution and give SCDOT crews room to work.

Without a shadow of a doubt, buckle up!
Please stay off the roads if possible this morning, but if you're commuting on this #GroundhogDay, make sure you buckle up, slow down and give plenty of distance. The potential for refreeze of wet roads are likely, especially on secondary roads that are shaded or on overpasses and bridges.
Visit 511sc.org or download the 511S SC Traffic App to check road conditions before necessary travel.

The snowfall may be over, but the danger is not. Our suggestion is clear – please stay off the roads until conditions improve.
If travel is unavoidable, take a moment to clear your windshield, roof and mirrors before you hit the road. Remember, visibility is key, especially when road conditions are sketchy.
Visit 511sc.org or download the 511S SC Traffic App to check road conditions before necessary travel. And make sure you keep your speed low and give plenty of space with other vehicles.

Roads are tricky to navigate when there is snow. If it’s not essential, don’t get on the road. Stay home. Remember, bridges, overpasses, and roads less traveled freeze first. Avoid driving if possible.
If you must drive, reduce your speed and avoid sudden braking.

Take a snow day, Part 2 and AVOID the roads if possible. If you don’t have to travel, stay home.
If you plan to head outside:
• Wear a hat, scarf, and gloves to cover exposed skin
• Layer thin, warm clothes under a thicker coat
• Choose waterproof shoes and thick socks

The road conditions here in the Midlands are beginning to deteriorate as we get more winter weather this afternoon.
Too many drivers are driving too fast for the conditions that are present.
If you need to be on the road, slow that ride down and take it easy!

Our overpasses and bridges will ice over before the road does.
As you can see here we already have ice forming in places. This is on I-77 northbound just before Two Notch Road.

Cold weather can bring extra challenges, especially for older adults.
Stay safe this winter by keeping important numbers nearby, staying connected with loved ones, and asking for help when you need it. A little preparation goes a long way toward preventing slips and falls.
