Paul Skenes was driving down Perry Highway in Wexford just past seven o’clock Monday night when the Pirates superstar pitcher made a pit stop. It was a Little League field.
Skenes signed autographs for over two hours, connecting with Pittsburgh's next generation.

Murf Gray on hoping to make the Majors in 2027 with Seth Hernandez (question from @Demilio22):
"I want to say I share that same goal with Seth. He's a guy who's really talented, and I really think he can make it to the big leagues next year. And you know, that's my goal. Just following him up as he goes and as I go, and it's going to take a lot of hard work, and I think we're both willing to do that. So I hope to see both of us up there at some point next year or whenever that is."
Seth Hernandez makes his goal for 2027 clear:
"That's my goal going into next year, make up to the big leagues. But like I said, I'm just going to go one step at a time. Not going to think too far ahead, but that's definitely one of my goals."
Asked Seth Hernandez about his oblique injury that ended his season. He said he's feeling 100% healthy now, and did since about the first or second week of September.
"Finally back home now, getting after it for the offseason. So everything's good on that half."
To round out the Young Bucs awards, Seth Hernandez is given the Bob Friend Pitcher of the Year while Murf Gray is the Honus Wagner Player of the Year.
Pittsburgh acquired Mason Montgomery from the Rays last offseason. He quickly evolved into one of the game's best relievers.
"If you had asked me 3 years ago, I would not have thought that I would be throwing the 9th inning for the Pirates right now.”

Cade McGee isn't like every prospect. He's keeping his defensive options open, including a move to catcher to add to his versatility.
“I definitely want to roll with the utility aspect."

Sources confirm to MLBdotcom Justin Newman will be the Pirates next director of domestic amateur scouting as first reported by @JoeDoyleMiLB. I recommend this podcast from @SportAnaIytics from two years ago to learn a bit more about Newman:

A great start to the AFL season for Pirates prospect Wyatt Sanford. 100 mph off the bat.
Also some important notes:
Martin Perez and Bryce Elder won't be available for the NLDS.
Asked Walt Weiss about Chris Sale possibly being in play for a start on Sunday (4 days rest from Tuesday) after throwing 21 last night:
"Not sure. That's on the table. That's on the table. That's one of the topics of discussion this morning before we leave. A lot of it's going to depend on how Chris feels. Certainly don't want to jeopardize him and his health. He just happened to feel great yesterday when he got to the park, and that's why he was in play, but he's had to grind here recently, so we're going to err on the side of giving him more rest if it's even close. But yeah, just an amazing performance in this round for sure."
