Beat Valor Mortis. 7.5/10 for me. Visually gorgeous game and art design + aesthetic was fantastic. Really enjoyed the movement which makes sense cause of the ghostrunner experience. Level design was also really well done IMO.
Unfortunately combat let me down a lot. I didnt think the first person POV really mattered much but maybe it does for a soulslike cause it affects depth perception, spacing and arena movement during fights which are really important when it comes to bosses. Bosses were also underwhelming IMO (other than sphinx). Enemy variety was underwhelming and didnt really change after the first 3 chapters. This affected the pacing of the game and made the second half feel tedious. Overall definitely worth it for 40 bucks. Looking forward to the next game!
What playing Elden Ring nonstop does to a mf
Had dinner with my parents last night.
Dad mentioned my cousin:
-- 36
-- No kids
-- Paid off car
-- Travels four times a year
-- Looks genuinely happy
Mom shook her head. Said "I worry about him he's so alone."
I have four kids, a mortgage, and haven't slept past 5am in 3 years.
I didn't say anything. Just passed the bread.
Beat townfall last week but didnt have time to get out a review. 7.5/10 for me. I love the vibes and the atmosphere. Sound design and visuals were stunning. I personally prefer the rough industrial horror vibes over the style of F (liked F too but wasnt to my tastes). I do feel like the story and narrative didnt really hit for me sadly. I felt like a majority of the game I was spent trying to figure out what was going on and i didnt really ever get the resolution i was looking for. Simon as a character didnt feel very compelling to me and I wish he had more to say unlike James in SH2. Hope they make more SH games along this vein though cause I really enjoyed the vibes.
Got early access to the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered thanks to the lovely people over at @CDPROJEKTRED
Cant wait to get my hands on this one!
Beat Dawnwalker yesterday, 7.5/10. Weird game for me in that I loved things like the writing/narrative/world building/art design which are things i find most games fall short of. I typically dont care about vampire storylines so i had low expectations but it was genuinely fantastic and engaging. However combat which i typically dont care about affected my experience quite a lot. Played on duelist difficulty but i actually pushed it down to story mode for sequences other than bosses cause it just felt like a slog. Enemy variety being so limited and combat being parry-riposte centric made things feel one dimensional which in turn made me feel like typical RPG mechanics like builds and loot didnt matter as much. Liked the time system overall but didnt feel like it did anything positive cause you reach endgame with more than enough time to spare but you dont know that while in early-midgame so it feels annoying at the back of your head while realistically having very little impact to the game.
Would recommend if you're a fan of the Witcher 3.

Beat Onimusha last night and ended on an incredible high. Was considering giving it a 9/10 but I think I'll settle on an 8.5 instead. The game picked up for me midgame and then it kept climbing.
✅Combat system is one of the best.
✅Needed to mention the combat animations separately cause it really made such a difference for me and they were spectacular with so many unique ones.
✅Dialogue writing + Expressions on the characters were fantastic. I find extreme-anime writing hard to digest but they had a really good balance here IMO. It had just the right amount of whimsy for me.
❌Think it had too much padding for game time. I got bored after closing the first couple of rifts and the loop between major progression points felt repetitive to the point where I stopped doing the side quests after 1-2.
❌Mini bosses were repeated a little too much IMO especially considering there's just 2 and it did feel unnecessary to me regarding where they are in the game.
❌The overall story didnt really resonate with me much (demon corruption spreading across Kyoto) and this was probably affected by Nioh 3 earlier this year feeling similar in terms of the overall structure of the story.
Overall the negatives dont really matter to me too much (8.5s are excellent games to me) and I think its a must play if you're into action RPGs. I would also recommend not upgrading your gear to the maximum if you're wanting to feel challenged. I left my sword at level 3/5. Gonna do the carnage mode after dawnwalker!
Onimusha combat system is one of the best. Genuine insanity that they made something so fun. Sekiro was probably my favorite combat system so far and this is on par if not better IMO in terms of satisfaction. And god does this game have the bosses to showcase that system.
Was at Gamescom and couldn't get a review out for Mortal Shell 2 but I'm back and game was an 8/10 for me. (this was based on when i beat the game a week ago right after the first patch and not the current patch that dropped)
✅Shell concept was really interesting
✅Weapons were fun to use
✅Movement/performance was pretty decent
✅Story and world building was really good
❌Bosses were mostly forgettable IMO which is a main USP for a soulslike
❌Certain choices like respec costs were too high which meant you could only level 2-3 shells per playthrough. Heavily affected tempo/pacing of the game (Has been fixed with the most recent patch)
❌OST was underwhelming with very little variety after the first few tracks
Overall still recommend the game if you enjoy playing soulslikes and I think its a great effort from the studio. I compared the bosses to khazan (which i think have the best souls bosses) and story/narrative to lies of P both games which are probably the gold standard of the space excluding fromsoft.
