I don’t understand the hate about pedestrianising Oxford St. Seems like a no brainer - there may be kinks in the roll out but to be expected. Speaking as a Londoner who has lived here since 1990 and who used to drive everywhere and be able to park behind Leicester Sq.

Turkey Koobideh and Persian saffron rice with Tahdig. First attempt at both and was pleasantly surprised at how well the rice turned out. Turkey mince acceptable but next time I’ll use lamb.

No salt baked eggs, tomato, yoghurt and home made no salt zatar. Along with various other herbs and spices. Lovely bank holiday brekkie. #nosaltforthewin @ratemyplatenow

Today I made no salt chicken laksa soup. I have been on a no/low salt diet - ie less than 5 g salt per day (usually much less). I have become moderately adept at cooking tasty no salt recipes. Pls see my insta #nosaltforthewin for more recipes, hints and tips!

Looking forward to seeing this later today. Won’t quite be The Odyssey but will be informative and important. Sun 19 Jul 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM: A Special Community Screening: The People's Emergency Briefing tickettailor.com/events/chin…

Went to see the Odyssey earlier today and it is magnificent. I understood what people must have felt seeing the Godfather for the first time. All actors were great. Anne Hathaway was a revelation and Sam Morton excellent as usual. Best film I’ve seen in a long long time.

Would bet that the same folks who think it was ok for Trump to interfere re Balogan would scream for Balogan “to stick to sports” if he ever said anything political.

This is such a lovely thread.
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

England have been very poor in this match but more insidious is the level of denial from the management. Basically “shit happens”. It’s truly gaslighting on an international level. #TheAshes

What a lovely tribute and so sorry for your loss. Your father’s story mirrors mine a little bit (albeit my father was Hindu). He must have been immensely proud of you.
My tribute to my dad, who passed away last month in the UK. He was a proud Indian immigrant *and* a proud British citizen. His life story is one long rebuttal to the nativists, bigots and xenophobes.

So very sad learning of the passing of Dharmendra Ji. Sholay is a film that shaped my childhood and will forever be in my heart and soul.

Not ashamed to say that news brought me to tears. The Stone Roses were and are so pivotal to me youth and adulthood. RIP Mani #byebyebadman

Is everyone getting more spam calls than usual? I must have had about 20 in the last few days.

Sunset before 5 pm. What fresh hell is this?!

I mean “eventize” is definitely not a word.
IMAX is joining forces with Netflix, Apple TV and Prime Video to eventize streaming content. Most significantly, Netflix has committed to a four-week theatrical run of Greta Gerwig’s #Narnia, which kicks off Thanksgiving 2026. variety.com/2025/film/news/f…

Lost my Bose ear pods about a year and a half ago but find my phone said they were near me. Figured they’d fallen out of my pocket at a park but couldn’t find them. Bought new ones. Painter comes today and we had to move sofa and there they were! So now have two sets.

Besides anything else this excludes Dulwich, Chiswick, Maida Vale and seemingly West Hampstead (though that’s not clear). 4 of the poshest places in London. What a load of tripe.
This is the London Banana. As long as you stay within the Banana, you'll have a great time in London. Almost everything outside the Banana is horrible these days, best avoid. Not clear why, or when this happened. But it is what it is.

Can someone please explain to me in simple terms why Keir Starmer is/was responsible for Lucy Connolly’s guilty plea and sentence?
