Army Medical Corps officers get opportunities to command field medical units much earlier than physicians in our sister services. There are many opportunities in the Army to command small health clinics starting at the O-3 level. Navy & AF normally commands start at O-6.
As military medicine continues to become a joint service endeavor, physicians from every branch of service are deploying. While there may be legitimate differences in quality of life with enlisted recruits, quality of life for physicians is essentially the same.
Army is the Executive Agent for medical research including USAMRIID, MRMC, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, and GEIS.

The relationship doesn’t stop between the healthcare recruiter and the HPSP recipient once in med school. The local HPSP recruiter is charged with providing them guidance, mentorship and assistance in preparing for the Officer Basic Course and later transitioning to active duty.
The Army’s applicant-to-select ratios for residency programs are 1:1 or slightly greater in most cases. Overall, over 85% get their first choice of program and location.
