In 2014, a rural home in India had power for 12.5 hours a day on average. In 2025, it has 22.6 hours. Urban homes: 23.4. That is 1.8x the hours of power. Turn it around: the average village home went from 11.5 hours a day without electricity to 1.4 hours. The dark stretch got cut 8x over. That is the 2nd chart. The 1st plot is the official record, every year since 1985-86. I made this from the full CEA table. The bottom line is the share of electricity demand India could not meet. For 28 straight years it never fell below 5.9%. - It was 11.5% in 1996-97 and 11.1% in 2008-09. - In 2012-13 it was 8.7%. - Then: 4.2%, 2.1%, 0.7%. - In 2024-25 it was 0.1%. - In the 1st 9 months of 2025-26 it was 0.03%. - Peak shortage in 2024-25: 0.0%. The top line is the peak demand the grid met each year. - 24 GW in 1985-86. - 130 GW in 2013-14. - 250 GW in 2024-25. - It rose every single year. - On 21 May 2026 the grid met 270.8 GW, the all-time record. Electricity supplied went from 960 billion units in 2013-14 to 1,622 billion units in 2023-24. Installed generation capacity went from 249 GW in 2014 to 475 GW by March 2025. From 1985-86 to 2013-14, 28 years, India added 106 GW to the peak demand its grid could meet. In the next 11 years it added 120 GW. And the shortage went from 4.2% to 0.1%. Bharat is rising. 🙏🙏 Sources: CEA All-India Power Supply Position (Table 8, Growth of Electricity Sector in India 1947-2025); Ministry of Power Annual Report 2025-26; PIB power supply reviews (Feb and Jun 2025); 270.8 GW from the Minister's statement in Parliament. The 2014 hours figure is from independent surveys and the 2025 hours from discom feeder data on the National Power Portal, both as stated by the Ministry.

Replying to @TheEconomist
@TheEconomist laments a lack of “bold thinking,” conveniently ignoring that India has sustained the world's highest growth rate since 2015 - a feat unachieved in the preceding 68 years of independence. Delivering this era of hyper-growth required absorbing shocks that would cripple most nations - - Complete global pandemic dislocation - Direct military skirmishes with China & state-sponsored terror from Pakistan - Geopolitical fallout from European and West Asian wars - Unpredictable trade wars driven by erratic US policy swings The numbers speak for themselves. The patronising lectures no longer sell. 🥀🥀
Without a strong rival party or challenger within the BJP, India’s prime minister shows no serious sign of refreshing his government. That is a shame. The country needs bolder thinking if it is to thrive economist.com/leaders/2026/1…

A good day to remember that Modi has won the majority of elections through five economic crises/episodes in the last six years. Covid, supply-chain deadlock, the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump tariffs, and most recently, the Iran war. Criminally underrated. BJP also undersells.

Reports say a pre-budget suggestion is under discussion to remove LTCG tax only for foreign investors on Indian stocks. As an Indian, I feel being Indian is being treated as a crime. I will keep paying 12.5% LTCG on my hard-earned gains only because I am Indian, while foreigners may get a free pass. Is being Indian a crime? Request to Hon’ble Finance Minister @nsitharaman @nsitharamanoffc , Please do not do this discrimination. Treat Indian and foreign investors the same. Don’t penalise people for being Indian. Equal tax for equal investment.

Nominal GDP per head in 2024: China about $13,300, India about $2,700. A 5x gap. Switch to PPP .. roughly $23,800 vs $9,800. Under 2.5x. Now apply what households actually spend, around 40% of GDP in China vs 56% in India. You get about $9,500 vs $5,500 per person. Five times shrinks to 1.7 times. That's the gap a family actually feels at the kirana store. The flip side explains why China still looks miles ahead. For two decades Beijing pushed over 40% of GDP into investment. Households saved, the state built. Expressways, bullet trains, ports, apartment towers. What you see landing in Shanghai is 20 years of accumulated capital stock, not today's living standard. India went the other way. Families spent, the state under built. So the gap on the street looks far wider than the gap in the wallet. This is exactly why the next ten years matter. Union capex has roughly tripled since FY20. Once physical capital catches up with consumption, the change becomes impossible to miss. China built first and is now struggling to make its people spend. India let people spend first and now has to build fast. Neither route is free. Believe that ours is the easier problem to have.
When one adjusts for cost of living and household consumption share, China’s lead over India - though still significant of course - comes down dramatically. It also tells us that the next decade should see some of the more visual signs of growth in India: more infra, more cars, bigger homes, fewer slums, taller kids etc.

According to World Bank's latest report, India's extreme poverty has fallen from 27.6% to just under 2.6%. And for Indians living under Rs. 400 a day (lower middle income), it has come down from 57.7% of the population to 16.1%. Remarkable achievement by India given the rupee depreciated and the inflationary pressure of a fast growing economy.

"Tell Modi to sack accused no. 4, Gyanesh Kumar and the protests will stop in 30 seconds." The typical language of a violent blackmailer. The crux is this: @RahulGandhi resents the Traders, the Middle Class, the Women the Youth and generally the Hindus for repeatedly voting for Modi. Especially in Delhi. Where the has been blanketed out 7-0, three consecutive times. Hence the demeaning, dismissive and threatening tone - YOU voted for Modi; now "tell" YOUR Modi to do this else I will destroy your business and livelihoods during your most sacred festival. Incidentally, the Pahalgam terrorists, while identifying Hindus and killing them, also used the same language - "tell Modi".
To every trader in Delhi: We love you and hear you. The Govt shut the metro, sealed our roads and locked down our capital. With a stolen vote nothing is safe - your shop, your savings, your children’s future. Tell Modi to sack accused no. 4, Gyanesh Kumar and the protests will stop in 30 seconds.

Vishwaguru Bharat. 🔥 Now you understand why PM Narendra Modi and Hm Amit Shah forced Dharmendra Pradhan to resign. At that time, protests were led by students, and people of the country fully supported CJP, and even some BJP workers came to Jantar Mantar in Delhi to support CJP. Central government had asked the Delhi Police to take strict action against the students. If only a DROP of BLOOD had been SHED, the consequences would have been similar to those in Bangladesh, Nepal, and France. Because Left-wing and liberal organizations were waiting for a SPARK of rebellion to IGNITE in Delhi, after which they would take matters into their own hands. The situation would have DETERIORATED to such an extent that it would have been difficult to control. You can see what is happening in FRANCE. BJP diverted attention from the students by getting Dharmendra Pradhan to resign. And they controlled the situation before it could escalate. At that time, RW supporters called Modi and Shah COWARDS and TIMID. However, today situation has become clear: if the government had not CAVED in at that time, the situation in the country would have been quite different, UNIMAGINABLE. Now, under the guise of issues like CEC Gyanesh Kumar, SIR, and vote chori, the leftists are trying to push Abhijeet Dipke forward. It has now become a BATTLE of political ideology between CJP and BJP, not a student-led movement like the one in France. This allowed Amit Shah and Narendra Modi to take strict action against Jantar Mantar 2.0, and no one questioned or protested. Even the people of the country are now HAPPY that the government should take as STRICT action as possible against CJP. Because this is no longer a student movement, but a typical left vs right battle. Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation has thwarted CIA and DS's entire plan for REGIME CHANGE. It's not that the DS will sit idly by; they will CONTINUE to make efforts, but their chances of success are ZERO. Because people of the country are WATCHING what is happening in EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, and we will not allow such a situation to arise in INDIA. " Jai Hind " 🇮🇳

#BREAKING: India issues statement over terror plot to target Hindu Temple in United States. “We are deeply concerned by reports of an alleged plot to carry out a mass shooting targeting a Hindu temple in the Aurora area of Illinois. The reported anti-Hindu and racist nature of the alleged plot, including references to violence against people of Indian origin, is particularly disturbing. We have taken note of the action taken by US law enforcement authorities, including the arrest and detention of the suspect and the charges brought against him. This incident adds to growing concerns over racist hostility and anti-India hate in the US. There is a need for greater vigilance, zero tolerance for hate-motivated violence, and decisive action to ensure the safety and security of the Indian community. We expect US authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter, bring those responsible to justice, and take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents.”

We are deeply concerned about the rise in mass shootings in the United States. The recent foiled mass shooting plot targeting a Hindu temple in Illinois raises serious questions about the safety and security of the Hindu community in America.
I am deeply concerned about the actions of the Indian government to purge 130 million people from the voting rolls. This appears to be a similar playbook to what the Trump Administration is doing here at home to undermine voting rights in a democracy.

The real age of software about to start!
Unpopular opinion: In 5 years, we'll need more software engineers than we do today. Not fewer. Everyone is calculating how many developers AI can replace. If a team of 3 can now do the work of 10, surely the other 7 are out of a job? I think that completely misses what's about to happen. For decades, the biggest constraint on software wasn't the lack of problems worth solving. It was the cost of solving them. Millions of businesses still run on spreadsheets, emails, WhatsApp messages, and outdated software. Not because they're happy with it, but because spending $200,000 on a custom system never made financial sense. Now imagine that same system costs $20,000. Suddenly, millions of businesses that couldn't afford software development become potential customers. Projects that were never viable become viable. Companies that already build software can afford to do ten times more. And here's the part people underestimate: the cheaper software becomes, the more reasons we'll find to build it. Of course, some jobs will disappear. Certain tasks that once required entire teams will be handled by a single engineer. But assuming the amount of software the world needs is fixed is a pretty strange assumption, especially in an industry where we've barely scratched the surface of what can be automated. I could be wrong, but I think we're heading toward an explosion in software demand, not the death of software engineering. We're confusing the declining cost of writing code with the declining demand for software engineers. They're not the same thing.

CAUGHT RED-HANDED: In my new investigation @FoxNews Digital, I lay bare the invisible (red) hand behind the communist-led protests spreading from France to Belgium. Next: India. I encourage you to read the full story so you can know all of the players: foxnews.com/world/behind-fra…
A Fox News Digital investigation traces how France's student protests over education cuts are being hijacked by a sprawling network of communist activists, labor unions and far-left political parties — all amplified by a transnational propaganda machine funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech tycoon based in China who supports the Chinese Communist Party. Fox News Digital's senior editor of investigations @AsraNomani tracked 50 groups in a 'red-green alliance' involved in a transnational network organizing, promoting and amplifying the student protests in France. – Only 15 groups, or 1 of 3, is a youth student group The 35 other groups for adults are all left-leaning. – 12 labor groups – 8 communist or socialist organizations – 5 civil-rights and human-rights groups – 5 groups focused on issues from taxes to media – 4 political parties, including La France insoumise and French Communist Party – 1 Palestinian advocacy group On the ground in Paris, the hammer and sickle flies alongside Palestinian flags. The French Communist Party's national secretary poses with protesters. Far-left politicians from La France Insoumise pose for photos with students. Groups like the Young Communists Movement of France march behind bright red banners reading "Class War" and demanding an end to "Imperialist Wars." "What we're seeing here is the same Red-Green ecosystem that disrupts infrastructure chokeholds in our country such as the Brooklyn Bridge, college campuses and congressional hearings," says Heritage Foundation senior fellow Mike Gonzalez @Gundisalvus. In the U.S., BreakThrough News — a pro-communist outlet in the Singham network — pushes the protests to a global audience, racking up hundreds of thousands of likes, including from influencer Hasan Piker, on dramatic anti-police clips while laying the groundwork for the next student explosion, this time in India.

Watching Elon Musk this week has been a fascinating character study in the saviour complex of Western tech billionaires. They arrive in your country selling you the future. Welcome them, and you’re a country that wants progress. Make them wait, and suddenly your people are victims who need rescuing from their own institutions by the chosen one. It’s a pattern. When Thai rescuers didn’t use the mini-submarine Musk sent for the trapped boys, and diver Vernon Unsworth called the idea impractical, Musk attacked him as the “pedo guy.” When Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered X to comply with its rulings, Musk called the judge a “dictator.” The script rarely changes. Only the country does. The colonial mindset isn’t always about wanting to rule a country. Sometimes it’s the assumption that you arrive as its saviour, and if the country doesn’t immediately recognise you as one, something must be wrong with the country.
