Russia, Ukraine, and the United States have agreed to resume trilateral peace talks in the first half of November 2026, with Moscow suggesting a timeframe around November 10. The upcoming diplomatic efforts follow extensive shuttle diplomacy by U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, who secured agreements after separate meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo and Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
Key Details of the Upcoming Talks: The Timeline: President Putin agreed "in principle" to resume the meetings after November 10, while the Kremlin later noted discussions are expected to take place in the first half of November. The Location: Negotiating teams are slated to meet at the technical level in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, though Switzerland has also been floated as a potential alternative host. The Agenda: According to Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov and comments from Putin, the trilateral sessions will focus strictly on "building a security system for Russia and Ukraine after the conflict ends" and establishing a final peace deal, rather than negotiating a temporary or short-term truce. Broader Diplomatic Context: The momentum for these technical-level talks comes alongside a parallel humanitarian breakthrough. Brokered by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump during secret consultations, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a localized ceasefire in the southern, war-divided town of Oleshky starting October 27 to allow for civilian evacuations and aid delivery. Despite these positive humanitarian and logistical steps, major political obstacles remain. Officials note that the core positions of both warring nations have not fundamentally shifted: Ukraine continues to seek robust long-term security guarantees, while Russia maintains its demands regarding territorial concessions in the four Ukrainian regions it claims.

We discussed how the US exploits the historical tensions and wars of Eastern Europe to justify its attempt to balkanize Russia, currently using Ukraine as a proxy. We covered centuries of history and conflict involving Poland, Finland, Russia, Germany, and others, from the Polish-installed Tsar Władysław IV Vasa and Catherine the Great all the way to President Putin. In December 2010, 24-year-old Phoebe Handsjuk was found dying at the bottom of a garbage chute in her luxury Melbourne apartment building.
She had fallen 12 floors. At the bottom, a trash compactor nearly cut off her foot, and she bled to death alone.
Despite finding blood and smashed glass inside the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Antony Hampel, police treated her death as a suicide.
A coroner later ruled it an accident. He found that Phoebe had mixed alcohol with sleeping pills, sleepwalked out of her apartment and climbed into the chute feet first.
But the chute opening was barely wider than a microwave, about one meter off the floor, with a heavy door that closed on its own. And Phoebe's fingerprints weren't anywhere on it.
Even when tests showed an athletic woman of Phoebe's size could barely squeeze into the slot on her own, her boyfriend was never treated as a suspect.
Then, eight years later, another young girlfriend of Antony Hampel was also found dead. Police again treated it as a suicide.
Hampel said he was at an event in the city at the time, and a coroner found her death was not suspicious. He has never been charged in either death.
Phoebe's family still doesn't believe she climbed into that chute on her own.

Her school told her that her hair was a distraction and that she had a week to cut it.
Vanessa VanDyke was twelve. The hair in question was her own, growing out of her head, unstraightened.
She said no. Orlando, Florida, November 2013. Faith Christian Academy.
Vanessa had been at the school since the third grade. She wore her hair natural — a full, round afro.
She had been bullied about it. Her mother went in to raise the bullying with the school.
And the school's response to a complaint about bullying was to tell the child being bullied that her hair violated the dress code, that it was a distraction, and that she had one week to cut it or be expelled.
Read that order of events again. The mother reported bullying. The school threatened the victim with expulsion.
Vanessa, at twelve, said she would not cut it. She said publicly at the time that she liked her hair, that it was who she was, and that she was not going to change it because other people had a problem.
The story went national. The school backed off.
She kept the hair.
Here is what connects her to every other post today. In every single one of these cases, the institution describes Black hair with the same word: distraction. Not untidy, not unhygienic, not against safety rules.
Distracting. Distracting to whom?
Nobody ever answers that, because the answer is the whole point.

How are immigration judges proceeding with these cases knowing full well that the children don’t have legal representation?
A 13-year-old Honduran boy named Angel did not have representation when he appeared before a judge. A judge asked if there was a reason he could not return to Honduras. Angel told the judge, ‘My mom and almost my entire family are here. It’s too dangerous to go back.’ The judge ruled that Angel did not qualify for asylum and asked, 'Would you like to request voluntary departure, or should I issue a removal order?’
‘I don’t know,’ Angel replied before bursting into tears. He stared ahead stoically before continuing to cry and said, ‘I have no one. I have nothing.’
This is not a choice a child should be given, but it's the unfortunate experience of many migrant children.
Texas, migrant children as young as 2 years old are appearing in U.S. immigration courts, where they face deportation proceedings without guaranteed legal representation.
Witnesses inside the courtrooms describe a 6-year-old pretending to fly an airplane.
Mateo, a 3-year-old in a blue jacket, is playing with the microphone. The judge spoke to Mateo’s attorney, who appeared remotely.
A teen girl tried to make eye contact with a friend, only for the judge to reprimand her: ‘I see you’re smiling and think these proceedings are funny, but I need you to pay attention.’
In July, the Trump admin let a years-long contract with the Acacia Center for Justice lapse, ending federal funding for 100 legal services providers for more than 20,000 unaccompanied migrant children: Children who are usually in the United States are trying to escape trafficking, abandonment, violence, gangs, or other ab*se.
In August, the Office of Refugee Resettlement gave $20 million to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, a nonprofit organization that provides legal services. However, many advocates say USCRI lawyers either weren’t present or didn’t speak up when children were in court.
In some cases, USCRI attorneys even posed as ‘friend of the court’ for some of the children, including Angel, according to Lauren Fisher Flores, legal director at ProBar.
And now, the Trump administration will allow lawyers to start requesting virtual interviews for kids seeking asylum.
Children have to make their cases to receive asylum, and since procedures are also constantly changing, this can put extra stress on children. The interviews can take hours and dive into potentially traumatic events. And without a lawyer, kids may have to face this trauma alone.
Under Trump, they’re being pushed through faster hearings and asylum interviews without adequate legal counsel, which makes it harder for them to seek asylum and other protections under the law.
The goal is to deport more children faster.
Attorneys representing migrant children initially try to establish a rapport with their clients and help them understand what to expect in asylum interviews. But children are struggling to understand, as many of them aren’t able to speak English, let alone understand complex legal terms. So kids are being asked to make choices about their cases when they may not fully understand what those choices mean.
In an interview with a 3-year-old, who was too small to fit in the chair and ended up sitting on the floor. The child put bandages on the furniture and played with dinosaurs while the asylum officer tried to ask the child questions about their case.
A judge asked a group of 15 minors without attorneys: ‘Is this your first time in immigration court?’ They all answered, ‘Yes.’ ‘Do any of you want voluntary departure?’ the judge asked. No one raised their hand. Another child stretched her hands playfully toward the sky.
The initiative comes under the direction of White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, so that the Trump admin can deport as many migrant children as possible as quickly as possible.
Nearly 200,000 migrant children have been ordered removed from the U.S. since Trump returned to office, according to The Guardian. About 70% were younger than 13.
This is the supposed pro-life party, making kids face legal challenges alone and sending them back to danger in the country they were trying to escape.

Today, the Fifth Circuit stripped immigrants facing detention in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi of their right to due process. People who have lived in our communities for years, even decades, can now be locked away with no chance to see a judge or ask for bond. It’s a radical departure from decades of legal precedent and violates the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, which protects everyone.
This ruling leaves tens of thousands of people imprisoned without the government ever having to say why. It is wrong, and we will keep fighting.
BREAKING: The 5th Circuit has ruled that ICE detainees with pending immigration proceedings have no constitutional right to a bond hearing, regardless of the length of their detention.
The en banc ruling appears to be 10-7.

Surprised the kidnapper wasn't an ICE terrorist
A 9-year-old boy was grabbed by a stranger, forced into a car, and driven away while selling water on the side of the road.
But as the car sped through the streets, the terrified little boy looked out the window and began waving desperately for help. What happened next was unbelievable.
It happened in Jacksonville, Florida. The boy had been selling bottled water near an intersection when a man suddenly forced him into a vehicle and took off.
Shameika Dowell, who knew the boy and was helping supervise the children, witnessed what happened. She jumped into her own vehicle with her son and took off after the suspect, refusing to let the little boy disappear.
As she followed the car through the streets, she could see the boy inside, frightened and crying for help. She kept chasing until the driver finally stopped, then moved to block his escape.
But the boy was still trapped inside. Shameika rushed toward the vehicle and began kicking at the passenger door, determined to get it open. Other bystanders rushed over to see what was happening and began helping. They kept going until she finally managed to force the door open and pull the little boy to safety.
Police arrested the suspected kidnapper, and the boy was reunited with his family. Despite everything he’d been through, he later said he still wanted to sell water so he could buy clothes for school.
Shameika Dowell refused to look away when a little boy needed help. Her courage deserves to be recognized. 💙
