Yesterday I was encouraging my older student to start asking for opportunities to play at church and she was worried the ladies who do it now won’t want her to. They will. Elaine and Nancy were my older church pianist ladies and I thank the Lord for them almost daily. ❤️❤️❤️

This is 100% true. I do it every day.

Lowkey screwed for my piano class assignment tomorrow morning and I’m scared my teacher is gonna Spider-Man me and be like “your power is great, why were you not responsible w it” bc I am literally the only pianist in the class 😭

10 students and one class of my own today and my brain is COOKED. Not sure why teaching makes me so tired unless it uses actual energy to explain musical concepts so many different ways for so many different kids.

I have a soft spot for kids being forced to take piano lessons and hate it. Headed to my last students’ house where last week, as soon as I walked in, the parents told me she’d just asked whether she’d still have to take lessons if the mom died. Wish me luck. 😐😂

I was trying to explain the concept of a song ending on the tonic to a 4 yo this morning and she wanted to change it so I was like, “Lara, you could write your own songs!” Lara, 4yo: “I’m going to be police.” ??? “I just really like maps.”

Me, in class after watching a video of a 6yo remixing a song called “I’ve Got 5 On It”: “‘5 on it’…so this is about sports betting?” My classmate, w the deepest possible sigh: “It’s about buying drugs.”

Sharing an elevator w the med students talking about their professor berating them if they can’t answer questions on the spot while coming from my class where our prof just told us grades are a formality bc she trusts us to learn. 💅🏻

Trying to explain to my 5yo student from church why she needs to count when we play together so I told her to say the Lord’s Prayer with me and then I skipped a whole bunch of words and ended first. Interestingly enough that worked and I’m also impressed she knows the prayer.

My 6yo boy student made me a bead ghost even after I forced him to spend half of his lesson fixing his counting. He either loves me or this is way of telling me he’s going to be haunted by my voice in his head counting half notes out loud. 😂

I asked my clinical supervisor yesterday if it’s normal to need to clock out of listening to/playing music you did not choose and she was like “Oh for SURE” and I feel better now. I am only engaging with broadway tunes if I am being paid to do so.

I have concluded that I need to buy a 3/4 guitar for school/future practice and I know guitar shopping is probably a lot of people’s idea of an amazing time, what the heart really wants is a Yamaha baby grand like I grew up playing in church

In my resurrection body I’ll be able to do my eyeliner nicely on both sides smh
