There is an old Jewish saying: the antisemite does not accuse the Jew of stealing because he thinks he stole something. He does it because he enjoys watching the Jew turn out his pockets to prove his innocence.
The rape deniers know women were raped, mutilated and tortured. They just don’t care. And they are enjoying seeing our wounded and violated people have to turn out our pockets to prove we’re not liars.
Horrified by the attempt to assassinate an Australian politician by vehicular ramming, a method of terror seen in Europe and the US. The carefree Australia we grew up in, of overwhelming safety and civility is fading. What we call social cohesion is teetering. Strong leadership, law enforcement, effective institutions and a personal commitment to stand up to hatred and incitement and to practise empathy and kindness is the only way through this. Wishing a full recovery to Ms Haines in body and soul and strength to her loved ones.

The decisions by both the Australian Greens and One Nation to refuse to support Australian military aid to Ukraine is indefensible. Ukraine is a democratic country that has been viciously attacked by an expansionist and authoritarian Russian regime. The statement by Greens leader, David Shoebridge, that the Greens stand for nonviolence is pure cant. There is nothing in Greens policy that says we can’t support a country that has been invaded and Shoebridge should hang his head in shame at his bullying treatment of Ukrainian diaspora leaders yesterday.
Pauline Hanson is clearly following Trump’s lead here. Whose lead is Shoebridge following?

I participated in the anti-Vietnam War and anti-conscription movement of the late 60s and early 70s. I opposed Australian and US involvement in the war but did not support the Communist leadership of the Vietnamese resistance because they were clearly going to institute a one-party state. I was critical of my own government but did not support its violent overthrow. Some in the movement however did support the Communists and did support the violent overthrow of capitalism and, especially in the US, this took the form of the terrorist organisation -the Weather Underground - that carried out numerous bombings.
I am worried that history is about to repeat itself, only more dangerously this time. While I support the call for peace in the Middle East and am critical of the policies of both Trump and Netanyahu, there is a line that I think the pro-Palestine movement must not cross but are in great danger of doing so. The calls for the destruction of Israel, the glorification of the authoritarian, terrorist, Islamist groups Hamas, the blanket condemnation of “Zionism” and calls to “globalise the intifada” (both of which imply that any Jew around the world who supports the state of Israel is a target) all buy into a narrative that fails to notice when red lines get crossed. I greatly fear we will see the emergence of home-grown terrorism in the coming period from a small minority who have bought this narrative and crossed the red line into violence.
Taken at Sydney Town Hall today. What place does this terror fetish have in our society? How much are we expected to take? This can be a country of decency and compassion or one where people hold the portrait of a coldblooded mass killer on the anniversary of his crimes. But it cannot be both.

“The Greens are more extreme than mainstream Palestinian opinion - they’re saying violence is now legitimate.”
The Green Party's ‘Zionism is Racism’ motion calls for “the eradication of the Israeli state”, says @Freedland.
“And they’re happy to see that achieved by violence”.

I wonder how they feel about their little slogan now?
On the left, National Front 1988.
On the right, Green Party 2026.
How clear do you want it? greens4palestine.uk/

Brenda Power is a rare voice of moral clarity amongst the Irish commentariat on this issue. In under a minute she eviscerates Ireland’s hypocrisy.
‘There wasn’t a single peep of protest to the Irish cricket team voluntarily playing Afghanistan last month, where women are treated worse than battery chickens. It is the most extreme humanitarian crisis in the world right now, as far as I can see, the gender apartheid in Afghanistan. Not a word of protest.’
‘Where was your indignation when we played [Afghanistan]? England wouldn’t play them, South Africa wouldn’t play them, New Zealand wouldn’t play them. The great humanitarians in Ireland had absolutely no difficulty. We’re hypocrites.’

I don’t remember a Yom Kippur without Eli. It was his favourite day of the year, he would say. The day when everyone he loved was under one roof. As we head into our most sacred day, my heart and my mind will be with the families experiencing their first Yom Kippur without those stolen from us at Bondi. Things will never be the same, we know that. But together we have to build something great and holy in their honour. Wishing you all a Gmar Chatima Tova, may we be sealed in the book of life. May we know no further loss and may the new year bring us renewed strength. Cherish the clarity this day brings and use it to increase your love of being Jewish.

🚨 NSW Premier @ChrisMinnsMP directly responds on camera to the revelations about the 9 October 2023 Opera House protest in @SharriMarkson and @AlexRyvchin's new book Bondi Terror.
In a one-on-one interview with @Pallavi_Aus, Premier Minns says his government has “learned from that” and had to push through controversial changes to protest laws, while stressing that the right to protest must be balanced with the right of Australians to live free from feeling “vilified and attacked”.
