One of my recent fascinations is the subgroup lattice of the symmetric group. This is a very well done video to understand the isomorphism between concrete models — matrices, sets, geometry — inhabiting each of the subgroups in the lattice: youtube.com/watch?v=7cXo8zc6…

#ikvaccineer

New paper with @Hidde_Fokkema and Damien Garreau about the population-level effects of algorithmic recourse in explainable machine learning: arxiv.org/abs/2306.00497 Long story short: providing recourse can cause significant harm to the users it is supposed to help. 1/n

In love with this little calculus machine I made. It does discrete differentiation on polynomials by doing a Stirling transform to the falling factorial basis and then lifts it up to the normal basis. Lots to improve, but love how math produces technology like this!

For the curious, here’s a nice paper I have identified that explains the link between Möbius inversion and discrete calculus. I am still attempting to make sense of how a lattice inversion leads from differences of sums to sums of differences: web.math.ucsb.edu/~padraic/u…

.@SanderBohte was interviewed by @Nieuwsuur on the enormous amount of power needed by #ArtificialIntelligence. He spoke about his research to capture the energy efficiency of our brains in an #algorithm and embed it on a chip. Watch the item here bit.ly/3INOlQY
