The use of #parentalblame within #autism provision:
Published in 2023.
There have since been other studies +research projects with similar focus. All concluding with similar findings:

* Autistic / neurodivergent (lone) mothers are seemingly MORE at risk from receiving blame (particularly in relation to safeguarding procedures).
My first book - 'Helping Your Child with PDA Live a Happier Life' - is now available in 3 languages; English, German and Czech.

Research report published:
Survey participants with a formal diagnosis of autism were three times more likely to be accused of FII than non-autistic parents participating.
Parents of autistic children may be at higher risk of child protection proceedings:

How appropriate is it to label parents of #autistic children 'permissive'?
I challenge this commonly used blaming narrative in my November newsletter: alicerunning.substack.com
#autism #send #parentalblame
I write a monthly newsletter that aims to challenge the blaming narratives found in #autism provision. Nov. issue looks into the appropriateness of assessing parents of #autistic pple using framework of 'permissive parenting'.

I've been trying to expose this happening in too many schools for years.
This is one lid off one of many very large cans of worms.
It's sickening, but this is the reality of many children's school days.

This is where it starts @RamseyjJane @Paulscriven @KeeleyMP @BaronessHollins @LizBarkerLords. This is not an isolated case by any means. And by the time our traumatised children end up in psychiatric hospitals, sometimes years later, the damage can never be undone.
We need to act on all the reviews that have already been done with:
Ringfenced, audited funding where the spending is then evaluated over time.

Following the BBC reporting of abusive seclusions + restraints within specialist provision, here are some people and organisations that challenge such practices:

Replying to @NoelTitheradge
Seclusion+restraint practices systemic in 'specialist' provisions. Schools use barbaric force to deal with distress+overwhelm caused by the school not meeting child's needs. Parents who challenge this practice exposed to parent blame, labelled difficult or silenced.

Heartbreaking accounts of autistic children being denied access to appropriate education by a broken system:
itv.com/news/2024-11-22/we-a…
"...there was no suitable space at the school for her son to decompress." And so he was excluded. How many children have to be blamed for situations that amount to a failure on part of the #Send system. Don't think I'll ever stop feeling angry about this.

New report outlines human rights violations in Britain’s child protection system:
93% of parents who said they were treated unfairly by child welfare professionals or services. 35% said their poor treatment was rooted in discrimination around disability.

Excellent summary. Proud to have my survey report included in literature review. Deeply systemic problem ruining childhoods and preventing access to rightful provisions.

Being bullied because of your autistic presentation can shred your self confidence, self worth+identity. The words of my bullies rattle around my head still. It can make leaving the house hard. It can make speaking up hard.
