To the young lady in question, I hope you get to see this. I'm struggling to understand what you think you've demonstrated here. Nobody needs to support financial reparations to recognise the horrors of the transatlantic slave trade, just as nobody needs to demand compensation from modern Germany to commemorate those who died in two world wars. Remembrance Day is not about celebrating war. It is about honouring those who sacrificed their lives, like my Grandfather, remembering the suffering caused by conflict and reflecting upon the lessons of history. Black History Month has its own legitimate purpose, as does teaching the history of slavery. Neither requires agreement with demands for reparations. You are confusing remembrance with restitution, and treating disagreement over a contemporary political demand as though it amounts to denying or dismissing historical suffering. I can acknowledge that slavery was an appalling injustice, recognise Britain's involvement in it, acknowledge Britain's subsequent role in suppressing the trade, and still question whether people living today should be financially liable for actions committed centuries ago. Those positions are not contradictory. And here's a question: if remembrance of historical injustice necessarily creates a financial obligation, should we apply that principle to every historical conflict, conquest and atrocity? If not, what determines the distinction? History deserves to be remembered, understood and discussed. But remembering history and accepting a particular political remedy are not the same thing. You can respect the victims of slavery and wear a poppy with equal sincerity. There is absolutely no contradiction. There is also an uncomfortable historical counterfactual that rarely enters this debate. Had the transatlantic slave trade never occurred, the millions of people descended from those forcibly transported across the Atlantic would, in almost every conceivable case, never have been conceived. Their ancestors would have remained in Africa, formed different relationships, had children with different partners, and produced entirely different generations of descendants. The societies and populations that subsequently emerged across the Caribbean and the Americas would have developed very differently. This does not excuse slavery or diminish the appalling suffering inflicted upon those who endured it. It is simply an unavoidable consequence of how human ancestry works. That raises a profound philosophical question when discussing reparations across generations. How do we calculate the personal loss suffered by someone whose very existence depended upon the historical events for which compensation is now being demanded? Existence does not imply gratitude, and being descended from victims does not mean inheriting their suffering in precisely the same way. None of this rules out arguments concerning inherited disadvantage, institutional injustice or the lasting economic consequences of slavery. But those are distinct arguments requiring evidence and careful consideration, rather than an assumption that historical wrongdoing automatically establishes a financial debt owed by everyone living today.

Today my husband of 47 years left for the higher realms, beaten by the cancer which survived everything we threw at it. I am bereft, despite knowing it was going to happen it still caught me off guard, I wasn't ready 😢 The country has lost one of its faithful servants, who served others his whole life. A gentleman, a great husband and father and I am left behind to miss him until we meet again. I didn't know it was going to be this hard, a loss like no other.

@NWAmbulance My terminally ill husband has been sitting on Ribblesdale Ward at RPH waiting for transport home since 10am this morning. He is now very distressed, I am also very upset. He isn’t mobile so he requires an ambulance or I’d gladly have brought him home myself. For every hour he’s had to wait he’s been deprived of spending time with his family. Can you please please speed this up?

This lasted another 3 days! Not a word of apology or anything else from the ambulance service.

As I watch the stench of evil whirl around the earth like darkest black, as insanity and oppression are revealed, I can't help but wish that military all over the world would make a stand when pee weak leadership is unable, or unwilling to put a stop to the riots that continue to spread to a point that may end life as we know it.

No matter what you think of the Tories, you can’t deny that Kemi is doing a good job. Her personal ratings are really good. The Tories are in second place in the polls. And I imagine they’ll soon be in the lead. The Tories are back, and that’s thanks to our amazing leader

How many ‘foreign’ activists, councillors, and MPs are telling British people how to live their lives and how to think? To my mind, too many!😱🤮🤮🤮💯

One of the biggest threats on British soil is you. The other biggest threats are the rest of Labour and their supporters.

🚨 LABOUR BACKS PLANS TO FORCE EVERY HOUSEHOLD TO PAY THE BBC EVEN WITHOUT A TV! Look at the desperate extortion scheme being cooked up in Westminster to rescue a dying state broadcaster. A parliamentary committee has officially recommended replacing the 180 pound television licence with a compulsory household levy added directly onto your council tax or broadband bill. Under this plan, you will be legally forced to fund the BBC even if you do not own a television set and never watch a single second of their programming. Over half a million households cancelled their licences last year because the British public is sick to death of subsidising state propaganda and biased reporting. In a free market, a failing media company goes bankrupt when customers walk away. Under Andy Burnham and Lisa Nandy, the state simply forces you to pay for it under threat of criminal penalty. Now connect the dots to their wider censorship agenda. Labour is banning young people from social media, setting up a state information defence centre, and forcing internet providers to promote the very broadcaster you are being forced to fund. The BBC has abandoned competing for audiences and has become a mandatory state church funded by an unavoidable poll tax. Retweet this immediately to reject this broadband tax grab and demand the complete defunding of the BBC. 🇬🇧🔥

She wasn't "spotted". Her team briefed a story to a media outlet who published the story. That she was "destressing" on the Pilates reformer "after the school run". A school run that no one has ever seen her actually doing.
