Geological evidence shows that, since the year 1200, new eruptions have occurred mostly from vents/fissures along rift zones. Prior to that, lava erupted mostly from the summit before sometimes overflowing the summit crater.

A recent plastic-tephra-garbage deposit near the north beach at Anak Krakatau. Pieces of plastic are molten as the hot ash was deposited. Probably need to invent a new rock name for this - any suggestions folks?

What I find amazing about this is that these oceanic volcanoes have been building up huge mountains under the water for an incredibly long time, and we get to witness the moment they reach the surface. This can also happen multiple times as the ocean erodes away a young island.
Volcanoes are the demonstration that #Earth is a #LivingPlanet #Copernicus #Sentinel2 🇪🇺🛰️ captured, between July and October 2022, the formation of a new island in the Pacific Ocean caused by the 🌋eruption of the Home Reef volcano

Hi Twitterverse, very informative video for questions related to #Taupō. Follow @geonet for any updates and watch out for imminent misinformation. Be very wary of what you read, anything with the term 'caldera' or 'supervolcano' gets ridiculous misleading hype attached to it.
Following the rise in Volcanic Alert Level at Taupō Volcano today, we have a video update from @gnsscience Volcanology Team Leader Nico Fournier who explains this change and the current volcanic activity at Taupō: youtu.be/AbXQeA0zSfI

How inclusive do you think volcanology is? In our new preprint, we tried one way of looking at it. We investigated how often locally affiliated authors are included in or lead research about volcanoes in their own countries. #volcano #inclusion doi.org/10.31223/X5ZS9F

Steady decline in activity at Fagradalsfjall continued today. Lava pond within the vent is lower and split into 2 sources. No visible outflow from the vent and yesterday’s outflow channel is drained. – at Iceland

Not only do we now have the first chemical analyses, we have the first microscope picture too! Here you can see lots of bubbles (vesicles) formed by volcanic gases, alongside crystals (plagioclase, clinopyroxene, and olivine) that grew while the magma was underground.
