On the 10th anniversary of Potterless’ 1st episode, I’m happy to announce #WizardOff, a charity live stream on Dec. 20, 2026 supporting Trans Lifeline. #JKR is causing harm to trans folks across the globe, so let’s push back with some charitable fundraising and counterprogramming

Cornell Case - TMZ Releases More of the Newell–Jane Doe Text Exchange**
TMZ has released additional messages from the text exchange between Jonathan Newell and Jane Doe. I shared part of their October 21 conversation earlier, but these subsequent messages add some interesting context.
October 21, 2024
Doe tells Newell:
“also yes while it may have been nice for like only 4 people to have been around, yall were both super out of it and they should have taken it on themselves to leave. at the end of the day you, matt, and i were in your bed and they didn't need to get up in that.”
In another message, she reportedly tells him:
“ps. i'm not sure if u remember but i did ket off your d*** at some point❓and i honestly think that was one of the most insane/jaw dropping moments of the night.”
At this point, Doe appears to be filling in some of Newell's memory gaps. He acknowledges that parts of the night are fuzzy, apologizes for not shutting things down when additional men entered the room, and expresses concern for her.
November 3, 2024
The tone and characterization of events have changed considerably.
Doe writes:
“all i remember after that was u giving me ket to do off your d*** in front of everyone like a sex doll/worker.”
In that same message, she alleges that 90% of what happened that night was nonconsensual, that she was given more ketamine than she could remember, and that she had expressed discomfort with unfamiliar men being in the room.
Newell's subsequent response again emphasizes his lack of memory, apologizes, and acknowledges that he should have intervened when other men entered.
What changed between October 21 and November 3?
Reading these exchanges side by side, there's a noticeable shift in how Doe describes the experience and her memory of events.
During that period, the Halloween party controversy unfolded, she was disinvited from Chi Phi, and questions arose about who knew what had happened in the alumni room.
Discovering that details of their sexual encounter had been shared with other fraternity members, particularly through those Snapchat messages, could understandably feel like a significant betrayal.
I'll link both TMZ stories below so people can read the articles.

I’m not my husband’s employee. He’s not my boss. He’s not my parent. I don’t need his supervision. You’re being infantilized and you’re ok with it.
I’m a grown ass woman, I’m not being supervised by my spouse. He’s my EQUAL. Not my fucking manager.

morgan wallen had a crash out where he used racial slurs against black people and venues still allow him to perform. kanye west praised nazis, said slavery is a choice and venues allow him to tour. chris brown is always beating women and he's being allowed to perfom...

it’s crazy how ‘not taking a side’ almost always means siding with evil but not wanting to be criticised for it

Oh you’re across gender policy in the AFLW are you?
And this person hasn’t been cleared to play AFLW - but thanks for once again only weighing in on women’s sport when it’s a chance to punch down. Very cool.

The great Neale Daniher has passed after a brave 13 year battle with MND.
He faced up to 'the beast' with bravery and dignity and had a huge impact raising $100m to #FightMND.
His speech to Melbourne Demons in 2019 was one for the ages. A life well lived.
RIP Neale.

Feels strange to watch this unfold.
On one hand, James Hird was my footy idol growing up. There would absolutely be a sense of romance in seeing the prodigal son return and lead Essendon back to greatness.
But on the other hand, what has Hird actually done since leaving Essendon to prove he is committed to becoming an elite AFL head coach?
Since departing in 2015, he spent six years entirely out of the sport to focus on his health. He then took on a part-time 'leadership mentoring' role at GWS, unsuccessfully applied for the Essendon coaching job in 2022, and later accepted a Director of Coaching role at Port Melbourne in 2024.
That is not the CV of someone relentlessly committed to honing their craft. If he truly wanted to build his coaching credentials, I am sure there would have been ample opportunity to do so. A state league club or a private school program im sure would have gladly taken him.
But those jobs are not glamorous. They are hard work, low profile, and miles away from the spotlight. It is far easier to carve out a comfortable career in television and then reappear when the Essendon job becomes available.
There is a significant element of entitlement in all of this.
Hird’s pitch seems to rest heavily on sentiment: Essendon is in his blood, he understands the club, he loves the club, his family legacy runs deep etc etc.
It feels as though Hird wants access to one of the biggest coaching jobs in the country without having done the unglamorous apprenticeship that almost everyone else is expected to do. He should not get to bypass the queue because of nostalgia.
Essendon must run a rigorous process to find the best available head coach. Past playing history at the club should be irrelevant. The only thing that should matter is coaching quality. The idea that the best available candidate could be someone who has not held an on field coaching role for 11 years is laughable.
If, after missing out in 2022, Hird had gone away, coached his own team, developed his craft, and built a compelling body of work, I would have no issue with his application.
But simply putting your hand up every four or five years when the Essendon job becomes available, while spending the intervening years working in TV is not it.
"If I'm the best man for the job, yes, I would love to do that job."
James Hird responds to whether he wants to coach Essendon again, advocating for the club to undergo the most 'exhaustive process possible'.
