Perceived peer goals were significantly related to individual goals after accounting for classmates’ and social group’s goals, suggesting that both perceived and actual reports are informative, likely targeting different processes of peer-group influence.

Does motivation of peers and teachers matter for adolescents' academic motivation? In our new paper with Nir Madjar and Yisrael Rich we studied longitudinal associations between perceptions of peer and teacher goals and students' achievement goals. doi.org/10.1080/00220973.202…
Results demonstrate that perceived teacher and peer goals predict students’ goals differently. Adaptation of classroom practice encouraging a peer climate of mastery goals, alongside emphasizing mastery goals for individual students, could be beneficial.
