Every time I see freshwater jellies (#Craspedacusta) in our campus pond, I am struck by how amazing they are. A few weeks ago we couldn't find any at all. Now there are hundreds! Soon there may be thousands! #jellyfish
A big moment for the Allen Lab and @wm_biology this Saturday as we announced that Augie Kalytiak-Davis won the Charlotte Preston Mangum Prize for outstanding research in biology. Augie is starting a position @MarineBiol_FHL this week, so they are getting a keeper! @STEM_at_WM

Just returned from #SICB2022 and had a blast as always. My students successfully navigated their first scientific conference and left more excited than ever to pursue research careers. I got to proudly watch them as they presented their posters to eager attendees side by side.
They're baaackk!!! The #CrimJell jellyfish are back in huge numbers this fall @williamandmary . Ranging up to the diameter of a quarter, you can see them easily with the naked eye. Want to know more? Check out this story from 2019 dailypress.com/news/dp-nw-je…

Since folks are interested in the crazy mussel set this year in Maine, here is a photo and a fun short video I made with my 10 year old assistant. Mussels *inside* Ascophyllum youtu.be/uGEIQcgo6Ws via @YouTube

Seeing the same thing in Harpswell and other parts of southern Maine! Here are some photos from Fox Island in Phippsburg. Everything that is black is a dense coating of juvenile mussels. @marney_pratt is right that we have seen similar densities at Giant Stairs and Lands End.
Heard that @wm_biology asked for summer photos of research and showed me training Dr. Leu in marine invertebrate biology. Today Dr. Leu got his revenge trying to teach me about birds. Note my professional use of the tools of his trade! #researchsummer
