That the Communist hammer and sickle isn’t commonly regarded as evil and offensive as the Nazi swastika is a failure of education.
“Dear Italian students, who today take to the streets carrying flags with the hammer and sickle and wearing T-shirts emblazoned with ‘CCCP’,” began an open letter in Italian by Lithuanian expat Neringa Budryt. “I would like to ask you a question: do you truly know what the symbols you carry represent? And do you know what would have happened to many of you had you openly demonstrated in countries living under the oppression of communist regimes? Let me tell you something. It is easy to display a red flag when, for you, communism is merely an abstract idea of equality, social justice, and rebellion against the system. It is easy to wear a T-shirt with "CCCP" on it when you have never experienced the reality of a communist regime. We come from that part of Europe where communism was not a T-shirt, a symbol of rebellion, or a romanticized notion of equality. It was the system in which we lived—a system we never chose. We know the history of Soviet repression, Stalinist purges, the Gulags, and mass deportations. Above all, we know the word "Siberia"—a place to which thousands of innocent people were forcibly deported, simply for thinking differently. In Siberia—amidst freezing cold, starvation, and forced labor—many lost their lives; those who survived carried the scars of that experience forever. Entire families were torn apart, and generations were denied the chance to live freely in their own homeland. In the countries of the Soviet bloc, censorship, political police, surveillance, and the suppression of dissent drastically curtailed individual freedoms. We grew up in a system where state control permeated even our daily lives. At school, we were required to wear the red necktie of the "Pioneers." We were monitored; they tracked where we went and even whether we attended church. Even faith—a choice that should belong to an individual’s own conscience—could become a cause for suspicion. We used to celebrate Christmas with our windows blacked out, to ensure no one would see us and report us. Because it was forbidden—just like so many other things: jeans, rock music, and all the symbols of a Western lifestyle. My mother returned from a Soviet labor camp. And do you know what happened to her? She was barred from continuing her education because she had been labeled an enemy of communism. Under a communist regime, you could not protest. You risked arrest, imprisonment, interrogation, persecution—and, in certain historical contexts, even death. In the Soviet Union and other communist regimes, political dissent could cost you your freedom and your life. Demonstrations independent of the authorities were not a guaranteed right; they were often suppressed by force. That is why it strikes me to see young Italians proudly displaying the hammer and sickle—symbols associated with regimes that persecuted and imprisoned millions of people. Today, you are free to take to the streets, shout against the government, criticize institutions, and wave your flags precisely because you live in a democracy that grants you these freedoms. Under an authoritarian regime of that kind, protesting against those in power could have landed you in prison. This is not about denying the existence of social injustices, inequalities, or the right to fight for a better world. You are free to take to the streets to demand a more just society—but you should not idealize a system that denied so many people the very things you are free to exercise today: the right to choose, to believe, to speak, and to dissent. Before wearing a T-shirt with "CCCP" on it, listen to those who experienced that world. Talk to the deportees and their descendants; read the accounts of those who endured the gulags and forced exile to Siberia. Learn what it meant to be stripped of your freedom, your home, your loved ones—and even any prospect of a normal life—simply because of your background or your beliefs. Before waving the hammer and sickle, please, study history thoroughly.”

"There is a time to go long, a time to go short, and a time to go fishing." - Jesse Livermore. Is one of the best pieces of advice a trader can heed, but the words preceding it are rarely quoted, and they carry some real weight: "There is the Wall Street fool, who thinks he must trade all the time. No man can always have adequate reasons for buying or selling stocks daily or sufficient knowledge to make his play an intelligent play." Sitting on your hands is an active position. Knowing when to step away or step back is what separates long-term performance from the slow bleed of overtrading.

"Physics doesn't read op-eds." That’s Killer line. It comes near the end, so you'll need to watch the whole thing, but it's worth every minute. 🧠🧐👇👇👇
Alex Gibney's "Musk" documentary hits every US theater this week. Four hours, full of lies. Expect the attacks on Elon to be legion. Why? Because what he's building threatens a world that runs on scarcity. Expensive houses. Expensive schools. Expensive everything. Abundance is terrible news for everyone who profits from things staying expensive. If you want to understand why he's the target, watch this video. It's also why I'm super optimistic.

🎙️ Seven years. 159 episodes. Nearly 2.5 million downloads. The AlphaMind Podcast has established itself as the world’s leading trading performance podcast, and the numbers back it up: 42% of listeners complete episodes in full. For a show where every episode runs 60 minutes or more, we’re told that kind of engagement is exceptionally rare. This week’s episode with Lance Breitstein @TheOneLanceB is a perfect example of why people stay till the end. Lance doesn’t waste a word. He endured nearly two years of losses, including one month where he lost every single day, before going on to become the most successful trader in Trillium’s history. He is now a Market Wizard. Stop confusing analysis with trading. Analysis is a component, not the craft. For 15 years, my strong analysis was betrayed by a weak risk process. I was exhausting myself being right while my P&L went nowhere. So I rebuilt my Risk DNA from the ground up. Performance didn't just improve. It transformed. I see the same Alpha Gap in most traders I meet.

Let's look at the argument in this post from another angle. You can buy a trading course online from someone who doesn't trade or does but hasn’t been successful. Or You can buy one from someone who does trade and has been successful. 🤔🤔🤔
"If you make millions from trading, then why are you selling courses on the internet"

Finding value. Taking risk. Sizing. That's the craft. But what really separates great traders is how they handle getting knocked down. Because once you let yourself be counted out, getting back in isn't easy. This week's Mastering the Trading Game Newsletter📰: looks at how to master being down, but not out. 🥊 Link in next thread below🔗👇

Brilliant essay

He did call it
Analysts, politicians, and journalists brutally criticized my speech at Davos in 2024. Will they admit that I was right once again? I doubt it. They lack intellectual honesty, knowledge, and self-criticism. LONG LIVE FREEDOM, DAMN IT...!!!

You can choose to succeed or fail in trading. The choice is yours. But understand this: Success requires Herculean effort. It’s running marathons, completing Ironmans, climbing Everest. If you aren't doing the relentless prep and stepping out of your comfort zone, you’ve already chosen to fail.

RoofKoreans is starting to trend ! Roof Koreans is the term given to the Korean community of LA who collectively took up the self-defence of their own businesses during the LA riots of 1992 when Korean shops were originally the targets of looters and the police were nowhere to be seen.
🇫🇷 Guys, I think I have the solution for the riots in France... Somebody call in the Koreans! 😂🇰🇷 Writer: Samuel

Three charts that tell you the biggest story in world finance right now, and it’s not unconnected to what we’ve seen on the streets of France over the last few days. 📈 Chart 1: 2026 French 10-year yields have soared above Italy’s, with most of the stress in the last month. (Reflected as a negative differential) Today’s 10-year levels: 🇫🇷 France 4.88% 🇮🇹 Italy 4.55% France now yields: 33bp over Italy 83bp over Spain 155bp over Germany and Greece, historically Europe’s most worrying bond market, trades about 40bp below France 📈 Chart 2: Since 2008 A steady grind tighter. Put another way, a steady erosion of French bonds as France failed to get its finances under control. Late last year, the two (Italy and France) hit parity for the first time in modern history. 📈 Chart 3: France vs Italy since the late 80s Before the euro, Italy always yielded 2 to 6% more than France. The euro was meant to bring that close to parity. After the financial crisis and during the Greek crisis, the spread blew out to 4%. Then the ECB said it would do “whatever it takes,” and it slowly normalised. Until now. France is meant to be the core of the euro, alongside Germany. This is a huge story for France, the ECB and the euro itself. US yields matter, but this is where the spotlight is right now🚨🚨🚨 France has no room for manoeuvre. It can’t borrow its way out of trouble when every move higher in yields adds to its borrowing costs. Yet the only way to appease the streets is to spend more, but it already has some of the weakest finances in Europe. When France eventually needs help, the rest of Europe will ask a hard question. France’s pension age was meant to rise from 62 to 64, and even that is now on hold. Much of Europe is at or moving to 67. Why should others nations fund a country that allows its population to retire 5 years earlier ?????, with also a far more generous welfare set-up beyond that (in most cases)? Their answer will be if you want help “cut spending.” The exact opposite of what the protesters want. Meanwhile Macron is pointing at the Middle East rather than looking inward. The euro has been selling off for weeks. This is potential dynamite🧨🧨🧨🧨. Watch it closely.

This is insane: The whole world knew what was going to happen. It was telegraphed on every Social Media platform on planet Earth. This is a sad indictment of the leadership of France. Not just the Interior Minister, but Macron chose the night before to attend a Celine Dion gig. Shocking abdication of responsibility by the French Government who then chose to shift the blame to the War in the Middle East France deserves better, the French deserve better.
France’s interior minister says police “lost control” in some cities during the violence and acknowledged a failure to anticipate the scale of unrest. Laurent Nuñez says he offered his resignation, adding that he is responsible for what happened. He says 350 people were arrested in Paris on Sunday and overnight.

The trading influencer sells you a Lamborghini in three months. Reality is far less glamorous, and far more useful. The maths: Making money trading takes 2 to 5 years. Faster is mostly luck or a bandwagon. Slower means something is holding you back. Part-time? Expect longer.
