Growing older is grappling with the realization that my schizophrenic relative with paranoid delusions has a higher hit rate than the people who dismiss him.
WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.

Another welcome to our newest Hermes Cloud engineer, excited to have you Calvin!
I’m excited to share that I’m joining @NousResearch on the Hermes Cloud team. Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of my personal time diving headfirst into what the future might feel like as AI becomes fully integrated into everyday life, both at home and at work. Through that experience, I’ve come to believe that keeping AI open source and broadly available matters. When you empower the individual, you give people more agency over how they work, learn, and create. Whether it’s one person, a small team, or a large enterprise, that empowerment can compound across the organisation. The systems I’m most interested in are the ones that can adapt to the specific goals, context, and ways of working of each person and team. From personal agents running on local machines to cloud agents helping with personal and business needs, I’m excited to work with the talented people at Nous to help more people access the power of AI agents.

Deepseek flash makes it so everyone can afford an agent
If you've been sitting out the AI agent hype cycles in the past year because it always seemed like a fad, a time suck, and too expensive to be worth it—honestly you may have been correct. But I would say DeepSeek V4 Flash with Hermes Desktop just crossed a line where probably everybody sitting out should probably do this now. It's almost free, the AI is basically what the US companies are selling for $200/mo, no setup, and you can get the AI to do basically anything on your computer for you in like 10 minutes all-in. (not an AI influencer and have zero financial involvement with any of these things). The extremely high intelligence has now converged with such extremely low cost that it's bonkers someone would not take 10 minutes out of their day to have this on their computer. All you do is download Hermes Desktop (free), then create an account on OpenRouter (just buy $5 of credits with no auto-topup, and copy your API key). Then put that API key in your Hermes settings, select DeepSeek v4 Flash as your default model, and everything else from there you can just ask Hermes to explain and do for you. Then just go crazy trying to doing useful stuff with/on your computer, in your browser tabs, whatever. You'll be surprised how long it takes until your $5 runs out (and if you're not impressed by then, very little time or money has been lost).

Love fun projects like this lol
Had Claude Code build a little plugin that visualizes the work Claude Code is doing as agents working in an office, with agents doing work and passing information to each other. New subagents are hired, they acquire skills, and they turn in completed work. Fun start.

So big labs have locked in so much compute that prices are now 3x'ing in months on RAM / VRAM / etc - they are going to price themselves out of scaling?

"Follow the gradient" That's great. We are learning so much from open source, shipping, screwing up and figuring it out. Plans are good, reality is better
I have never seen it expressed exactly like that, but I wholeheartedly endorse it: Feedback beats planning. My plea at Meta was “No grand plans, follow the gradient of user value”.

A big milestone for Hermes. We did a lot of work to make a frontier level openmodel that does not dictate what expression you can elicit from the model. Super strong at math, coding, STEM, and creativity. Model Weights: huggingface.co/collections/N… Check it out 👇

Anecdotally, I’ve found the people most vocal and showy about grinding hard (9-9-6) tend to have less throughput than a garden variety workaholic. I suspect this is because they’ve internalized endurance pace all the time. And loose the ability to sprint when needed.
