Blast from the past: do you remember levels and sublevels? The great debate over whether a child was a 3a or a 4c. Does anyone miss them?

Glad this is being flagged. The DfE should be highlighting the changes within the document - track changes works a treat!

My PhD research relates to a sensitive topic which thankfully few headteachers have had to deal with. Those who have & are able to share their experience will be contributing to a neglected area of research - headteacher emotions following a critical incident. Pls DM for details.

This whole funded, not funded pay rise nonsense has got me riled. My latest Headteachers Gym video explains why. No money for teacher pay rises | Lucy Powell Got it Wrong! youtu.be/SQktqO03GnI

The Spectator is on a campaign to kill a rare tiger because a man died after *he* jumped into the tiger enclosure. The real story is that Oxford lecturer, Dr Lola Salem has been charged with possessing child abuse images. Her ex-partner is The Spectator editor Michael Gove.

🧵 1/ Not every emotion needs pathologising. It’s okay to feel sad. It’s normal to grieve. Situations may make you feel disappointed, worried or scared; it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you, it doesn’t mean you need medication.

3/ If you wash your hands once when you get home after travelling on London Transport, or like to put your books on your shelves so they are colour coded, it does not mean you have OCD. Social media has popularised medical terms, without fully understanding what lies behind them.

4/ It’s when these emotions are felt over a prolonged period of time, come with other symptoms and have more of a context surrounding them that we may need to consider looking a bit deeper and consider seeking medical advice.

If you’ve been wondering whether now was the right time to start therapy, this may be the sign you needed. All sessions are in person in the Borough area (5 minutes from London Bridge stations).

The panic attack Alison Hammond experienced recently has made me think about how many teachers and school leaders have experienced the same thing as a resul of the sense of overwhelm that often comes when the workload gets too much and they don’t have the right coping mechanisms

Very often those who experience panic attacks don’t realise what’s happening because they can present in very different ways: heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, uncontrollable crying, a sense of doom. It’s scary when it happens because the danger feels real.

Staff having attacks at work isn’t spoken about much, but is more common than people may realise.

I wish we were able to talk about suicide and suicidal thoughts within Black communities without the immediate need to silence those who want to speak about it.
