Elon Musk is an idiot on an almost inconceivable scale. He had his high-school toadies pull a random list from a database he doesn’t understand, and on that basis alone decided that 60 MILLION SOCIAL SECURITY ENROLLEES, out of 72 million total, are fraudulent. 83% fraudulent!

After several delays, @DOGE has finally posted its purported savings. Why did it take so long to create a simple webpage with a 1000-row table? Who knows! Let's dig in. Headline number: $55B saved. They list the savings per nixed contract. This should be easy to verify then. 🧵
It's Monday. @DOGE is the laziest, most overpaid bunch of incompetent, unelected bureaucrats we've ever seen.

I just cried with relief. Finally, things can look up in Toronto again. Give this opportunity all you've got @oliviachow - use those strong mayor powers for good!
BREAKING: Progressive stalwart Olivia Chow will be Toronto's next mayor, the CBC News decision desk projected Monday, elected in a stunningly tight race that saw former councillor Ana Bailão come in a close second. bit.ly/3XtfOxz

Please all, vote for @JoshMatlow and support a ranked ballot system next time round, okay (which Ford essentially banned)?
None of you are ready for this Toronto mayor ballot

Feeling emotional today, #AncestryHour. Just received the psychiatric files of a g-great uncle & great-aunt. Both were diagnosed with "schizophrenia". Uncle was admitted for 8 yrs, but my aunt was a patient for 20 yrs, both at the Ontario Hospital Kingston, aka Rockwood Asylum.

Almost every single day I see a dog off leash in an undesignated area. Even if you think your dog is "nice", it's irresponsible.

NEW: A wealth tax on the super rich would raise an estimated $32 billion in the first year and $409 billion over ten years. Enough to pay for pharmacare, free tuition, 100K affordable homes per year & a major increase in public transit investment combined policynote.ca/wealth-tax-2/

As of today, Belgians biking to/from work can receive compensation of €0.27/km ($0.48 mile). For someone with a modest 5 km commute, that amounts to ~€54/month. brusselstimes.com/358636/all…

Rising food prices are a chronic trend in Canada—and the main driver isn't COVID-19, war in Ukraine or farmers charging more.  It's oligopolistic companies taking ever-larger pieces of the pie, as farmers and consumers get screwed, @emmapaling reports. breachmedia.ca/2023-food-pri…

NEW: Ford Conservatives voted against the Ontario NDP motion to bring in REAL rent control for ALL buildings. (33 yes - 67 no) Rents for a one-bedroom apartment is now over $3K a month for the first time ever in Toronto. Minister of Housing led the charge to oppose our motion.

The Toronto Parking Authority runs @BikeShareTO. It is proposing to increase bikeshare fees to 12-20 cents/minute. Meanwhile, this same organization charges just 1.6 to 13 cents/minute to let an empty car take up 155 sqft of space.
Casual @BikeShareTO users could be charged $1 unlock fee and then 12-20 cents/minute. Annual members will continue to get unlimited 30- or 45-minute use, it appears, though they would pay 10 cents/minute for power-assist bikes (if you can ever find one) secure.toronto.ca/council/ag…

The city’s climate plan calls for transit to be free. Yet, the TTC is resuming fines. The fine for evading a $3.10 fare? $425. How much are you charged when you drive an astounding and incredibly dangerous 40km/h over speed limit? Just $280. cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/t…
