Six months ago we published an explosive insider account from Jamie Reed, a former employee of Washington University’s pediatric gender clinic.
@jamiewhistle described vulnerable adolescents with multiple mental health problems being rushed into life-altering treatments that included possible sterilization.
We were dismissed. We were accused of running an unverified story. Prominent journalists, instead of following up on this important news, denounced us.
Today @nytimes confirmed much of our whistleblower’s account, citing patients who sought to reverse their transition, and young people with complex mental health problems being put on powerful drugs.

A reminder to everyone in this fragile “defending democracy coalition” - to all the progressives, Democrats, Independents, & conservatives who’ve joined forces at this CRITICAL time to defeat what this Republican Party has become: There will be policy issues, there will be laws passed, and there will be court rulings that we will disagree on. And that’s okay. We are all different politically. We believe different things. We come from different camps. But we all revere our democracy and we’ve decided to put our policy differences aside and lock arms at this moment in time to defeat Trump & Trumpism, the greatest & most immediate threat to our democracy.
Many of us in the defending democracy coalition disagree with each other on these court rulings this week. That’s just a fact. So…you can say fuck it. Fuck it, I no longer want anything to do with @WalshFreedom or @gtconway3d or @TheRickWilson or @MichaelSteele or @reedgalen because they thought some or all of these rulings this week were the correct rulings. You can say that. You can say you want nothing to do with these guys anymore because they may disagree with you on ending or keeping affirmative action.
But to say that that would be a mistake. A big mistake. Because our most important task right now is to defeat Trumpism & preserve our democracy. That’s it. And it’s going to take the ENTIRE coalition of us - progressives, Democrats, independents, & conservatives - to do that. It’s going to take ALL of us.
Preserve and defend our democracy first. That’s our job right now. I’m not asking you to change your policy positions, don’t ask me to change mine. We can get back to debating policy, legislation, and court rulings after we defeat Trumpism in 2024.
