NIH cuts are getting the press, but VA research is being slashed too. What do we lose when VA research goes away? Here's some greatest hits: The nicotine patch, the cardiac pacemaker, first successful liver transplant, development of the CAT/CT scan

Researchers @UMich @DepressionCntr used wearable devices to track over 800 doctors' daily rhythms and found that disrupted sleep and work patterns can significantly impact mood and mental health. By analyzing over 50,000 days of data, they discovered a clear connection between irregular circadian rhythms and depression, suggesting that digital monitoring could help identify and potentially prevent mental health issues.

The @UMich has received a $3.6M grant from the @NIH to study how pain and opioids after surgery impact people with opioid use disorder, how guidelines might be adjusted to address post-surgical pain and how to prevent opioid-related harms. myumi.ch/ypz52

ALT text: “We must listen to individuals with opioid use disorder directly to understand how to best approach solutions and strategies for their care and learn how to adjust care plans without inadvertently causing negative outcomes. This study and its findings will help us do just that.” Mark Bicket Associate Professor of Anesthesiology & Health Management and Policy
