As much as I wish I were more sophisticated than this, this meme is absolutely true.

This morning when I came downstairs, my kitchen faucet was on. Nobody was up before me. Then I looked in the living room & a box of keepsake matches that had been in a box upstairs were spread all over the floor. I have no explanation for either.

Last Friday, before the screening of H5, someone in the crowd asked me what I thought about H5. I told them that the best way to view this movie is from the perspective of the director. A young, European man, far from home for the first time but swept up by America’s charms. He brought a sense of European gothic with him (the house) but the characters & subplots are all how a foreigner viewed America with wide eyed wonder in the 80s. I wrote about this in Haddonfield and Dominique confirmed the rest to me in our interview. Book is available at this link: a.co/d/07s6cRl0
I'm watching Halloween 5 and it always bothered me that the Myers house looked like this. Who were they trying to fool? Lol

Ghostface is a persona, not a person. Much like how we separate Corey from Michael & Roy from Jason, each person that donned the Ghostface mask would need to be examined individually for this hypothetical Mount Rushmore. I could see Billy & Roman getting substantial support. Did I really just answer this question with a level of scrutiny reversed for sports Hall of Fames? I can’t help it, that’s just how my brain works.
do you guys think ghostface deserves a spot on the slasher mount rushmore?

Ellie Cornell, in her interview for “Horror in Haddonfield”, on the physicality of her role: “But for Halloween, there was no “Hey Ellie, by the way, you're going to be crawling around with Danielle on your back, sliding around, running, leaping over fences”. You just do it though and adrenaline helps. The part that I didn't do, which is probably no shock to anybody, was actually falling off the roof. That was a stunt double. But a lot of that was Danielle and I and it's cold out. Dwight was great about prepping us. It wasn't just like, ok, you guys, you're gonna run really fast down this foggy, dark alley. No, it was like, imagine that he's behind you and our job as performers is to tell the story. It's not that hard to imagine what it would be like. If that's the case, of course I would run up through the attic and climb out onto the roof. You would do what you had to do. So that's also helpful. It doesn't come from a fake place and to me it wasn't gratuitous action where it was these ridiculous fight scenes for no reason. I've done those too and those are fine. That's a different animal. But this to me comes from a really true place. I feel like our audience felt it. Horror movies took a different path after Halloween 4. After our film, the genre slowly got darker and darker and gorier and gorier, which is fine. But back in the day, you really had to tell the story in ways that the audience is going to understand and relate to. It's the relatability that I think made it work. I think that's why the character is likable and relatable, because you could relate being in charge of a child and there's this threat. Of course you're gonna climb out the roof and put them on your back. What else could I do?” Horror in Haddonfield is now available on Amazon: a.co/d/0b3xc0Ft

I was asked to speak at the service this weekend for my best friend who passed away. Now, all I can think about is how Greg used to end conversations by saying “Nice dick bro” and walk away before the other person could react. Or he would point at a stranger & question if they shit their pants for fun. I fucking miss that guy already. Not excited about speaking but I couldn’t tell his mother no. And I want his daughters to hear how great their dad was.

Before the end of the year, I’m going to make one list where I rank all of the Halloween, Elm Street, Friday the 13th & Scream movies. Just for fun really but I figured it would make a cool article for my site. And the comment section will be interesting to say the least.

I’m 42 and have only been to a casino to eat. I have been twice to a strip club though. In my experience, the old saying about the stripper not really liking you is only accurate 50% of the time. I will not be commenting further at this time.
I’m 29 and never been to a strip club or casino

Ghostface’s arms aren’t long enough to box with God. Michael (and Colonel Cochran) reign supreme.
SCREAM vs HALLOWEEN Two iconic horror franchises. Which do you prefer?

I just finished Crystal Lake. Feel like my assessment on 9/14 was pretty spot on. The show tipped its cap to the past, all while creating a new path forward. Did I love it? No, I didn’t. But it was the kind of storytelling that younger audiences want. If it helps resurrect the franchise so a new wave of fans can fall in love with this franchise, that’s a good thing. People like me still have our lore, our stories & our films. Let the newer fans have theirs too.
The way I see it? Us long time fans have our established lore. We have our story. Crystal Lake is designed to bring in a new wave of fans. Re-start the franchise for a generation that didn’t see these films on the big screen like we did. If they want to go the Stranger Things route & it gets the franchise going again, I won’t complain. It’s no different than the choose your own adventure narrative Halloween has become, which has allowed that franchise to span across multiple generations. Just get Jason slashing again.

Most devastating death in the franchise. And then Dourif’s reaction to the aftermath? Fuck. Zombie pierced the veil of exploitation into something almost unbearably close to reality.
Danielle Harris on filming her death scene in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, in her interview for “Horror in Haddonfield”: “I remember laying on the floor there after he cut me up and I’m screaming. Malcolm's character comes in and Brad's character comes in and I'm still laying there and I remember that everybody was trying to cover me up with a towel or a sheet or whatever. I was like, I just wanna be left alone. I just wanna be left here. It was fucking freezing and my teeth are chattering in one of the scenes and I thought, oh God, I'll use this. This is shock. I feel like my body is in shock and this is what happened and this feels really real and it feels really good. It was something that I could sink my teeth into. I wasn't afraid or hesitant to do any of that stuff. I was excited that somebody was giving me the opportunity” Horror in Haddonfield is now available on Amazon: a.co/d/00y8UeBT

One of the saddest deaths in horror history! Danielle Harris, Brad Dourif & Scout Taylor-Compton knock it out of the park with this sequence. It’s so good seeing Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN II get reevaluated almost a 2 decades later. 🤘🏻🎃

I’m feeling pretty nervous right now. Nobody besides me has read a word of Book 2. People seem to have enjoyed “Haddonfield”. What about if the follow up isn’t as good? What if I ruin my own momentum? Normal writer insecurities I suppose but they’re keeping me up at night.
Every creative loves to tinker with their work before it’s released. The important part is knowing when you should stop making changes and be done. This week, I’ve had that feeling with Book 2. It’s time to stop making changes & move forward.
