Congratulations @megalomyrmex on @NSF CAREER grant for #venomevolution research, supports PostDoc Livia @PradoLivs and PhD grad Kyle @NotoriousB_U_G_ #phylogenomics research; Panama, Costa Rica& Brazil, #taxonomy Still looking for PhD and postdoc position!
Amazing work by Purdue EEB colleagues on genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2
📣 Nice start to the week: another chapter officially out!! 👩🔬
Check out this published work in @OFIDJournal on the genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in a university community.

@AndrewMularo et al. showed patience and fortitude shepherding this paper through a demanding review process, then cascading Covid-related publishing delays. So, we made it freely available! Read it here: doi.org/10.1093/jhered/esac0… #JHered

Next was @AndrewMularo presenting on super interesting & recent work on the role of dominance in genetic variation after a bottleneck - paper here! academic.oup.com/jhered/adva…
Feeling very grateful to have the opportunity to present my first chapter and be welcomed by a group of amazing scientists at #Evol2022! Thank you all!

1/2 A postdoc is available immediately at Purdue to work in conservation genomics. We have whole genome resequencing data in mammals, birds, herps, and fishes to address conservation and evolutionary questions. Help identify exciting, tractable goals with our ongoing projects.

Thanks to PhD student Gina Lamka's leadership, we have a great new paper out exploring the power of epigenetics in ecology, evolution, and conservation @AvrilMHarder @schwartz_lab @markrchristie @AndrewDeWoody (and Mekala Sundaram)

The DeWoody Lab, in conjunction with the Indiana Integrated Deer Management Project, is hiring a postdoc to using genomic techniques to study predator/prey and demographics of deer and coyote populations. Come be a part of my amazing lab: facebook.com/DeWoodyLab
This past week has been an accumulation of anger and frustration toward my country. I feel sick that many friends, family members and colleagues, of whom I have the deepest love and respect, are unsafe from the police that I, as a white person, was told were here to keep us safe.
Being a first year graduate student is tough enough, but having to navigate through these circumstances can be even more difficult. Luckily, I don’t have to do it alone! S/O to my amazing and talented cohort of biologists for keeping me sane through this time!
Losing count of social distancing days, but at least peanut is better behaved than my other snake, so she comes out to keep me company 😁
New idea for quarantine: impromptu vegetable garden. Take scraps and seeds from various fruits and vegetables you eat and see what grows. 1 plastic container and a household lamp. Keeps you occupied and develops a greater appreciation for the food we are consuming!
Another fun day of fieldwork with @SpencerSiddons, where we apparently need an axe to get samples out of a pond
Amphibians in the winter?! Thanks @SpencerSiddons for letting me tag along for field work!
