It hasn’t even been 24 hours, and I’m still processing LAIKA’s masterpiece, Wildwood. I’m sorry, @nathanfielder, but this is now my favorite movie of the year and one of my top 10 favorite animated films of all time. This is LAIKA’s magnum opus. A love letter to Portland and cinema itself. It’s a perfect combination of fantasy, epic battles, and a coming of age story. The cinematography by the legendary Caleb Deschanel is breathtaking. The set pieces are incredibly ambitious, and every single frame and character is bursting with creativity. The story is surprisingly dark and violent, making it all the more remarkable. I really hope Wildwood earns a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. It deserves to be recognized as one of the great achievements in animation. I don't think we will ever see a stop motion film on this level before. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
