I have a lot of theories about how despair goes viral in English speaking places. I’ll just share this tidbit, from an analysis of 170 years of American news coverage. We really are living in an era of negativity-poisoned discourse that is (*empirically*) historically unique.

Long live the imposters!
Every so often I write down some of my experiences, startups and programs. Then read it, and think who is this guy. I just gave myself imposter syndrome. With a valid question, where is your lambo? > I got wiped out and had to start again. I have failed more than most people even try, but I’ve also had successes and Im a better entrepreneur everyday. We all have imposter syndrome!

100% agree!
No joke, when I'm on Windows, the app I miss the most from macOS in daily running is Preview! The native speed and handling of PDFs is something you can easily take for granted. Windows doesn't have it. Best I've found is PDF X and that ain't no Preview.

I find great comfort in the fact that I'm not the only manchild who thinks this sounds like the perfect day.
you are listening to the new blink 182 album for the 17th time today and about to play the new mario with your friends who brought over mountain dew. you ordered dominos with a discount code your mom gave you, $10/pizza. the year is 2023, and you are 38 years old. life is good

Every day on social media I'm reminded that only a small fraction of people seem able to understand the idea of tradeoffs. The question is almost never, is X a nice thing to do.

This is even more true for Australia than the US.
Climate debates are often stuck in 2010. But there's no longer a tradeoff between economic growth and stopping climate change. In fact, thanks to technology, the two goals now go together! noahpinion.blog/p/our-climat…

very hard to do something novel for the first time; orders of magnitude easier to copy something that is known to be possible. conviction is either extremely difficult, or free.

A Volvo engineer named Nils Bohlin invented the three-point seatbelt, but Volvo gave away the patent to other manufacturers because it had more value as a free life-saving tool.

The only reason we look back at the past so fondly is that we know things ended. The present always feels more scary because it’s unresolved and live
