There is an amazing story behind this cartoon which involves internecine personnel disputes within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; pro-Axis muckraking right-wing publishers, a hit piece by Kyōmachi Uneme (京町采女). Manchukuo, and a politician on the make in 1940 Tokyo.

Hints at complexities too easily passed over in discussions of Eastern Europe vis-a-vis Russia, Ukraine or ex-Soviet spaces i.e. politics of ethnic minorities (Polish, Hungarian), national revanchism, religious and linguistic. None of this changes even when party governments do.
Replying to @GeorgeSzamuely
Only marginally. Did Magyar become a huge friend of Ukraine? No. Did Djindjic recognize Kosovo's independence? No. Big changes occur only with big revolutions like Russian (both in 1917 & 1991), Iranian or Chinese.

Changer au dernier moment des itinéraires de manifestations agréés auparavant par les deux parties, c’est tout simplement immonde.

Introspection. Or on Macron contemplating the wreckage.
« Introspection », dit aussi « Macron contemplant le désastre » (huile sur toile).

Can’t wait to read this one.
Heaviest mail day (13.2 pounds of Vollmann). A Table For Fortune by William T. Vollmann. It’s America’s War And Peace (Proustian in its length). Just feel so blessed to have my hands on it.

Actually, I have often found it quite the opposite in both cases. Just ask Jean Genet.

Harvey Mansfield on Harry Jaffa (1996): "You call yourself an academic scribbler. I wish! You are not even a loose cannon because a loose cannon does some of its harm, or maybe all of its harm, by accident. What you do is stand behind the front lines, and point your weapon at the backs of your friends and shoot! And you’re not looking. There is a battle going on in this country between those, as you say, who want to continue America on the basis of its fundamental and original principles and those who do not. . . . You’re not in the front line. The front line is receiving fire from the enemy. They don’t shoot at you anymore, because you’re not shooting at them."

A revealing map if you look closely enough. How the Republic of China conceived of Asia at the beginning of the 1960s, just over a decade after the civil war. The borders and geographic imaginary hint at Asia’s counterrevolutionary and conservative solidarities.
