In the Manistee National Forest, if you overturn any log or stone that's been there for more than a minute you will find Woodland Salamanders.
These are the Eastern Red-Backed Salamander. They are fairly docile and do not run when you pick up their log.

Mr. Cooper decided to stop by the grain elevator right at sunset. Perched on the new power pole. Not much light to work with.
It was locked on to something and took off after it with full afterburners lit!

Baby was trying to dig up a peanut and was attacked by Clip.
They mostly just chase each other for fun. They are friends.

In Michigan, these tiny peepers come through after the Warblers. Easy to hear, harder to spot, and even harder to photograph!

While going through Warbler withdrawal, I can spend more time looking for beauty in the ordinary.

Along the lakeside trail, I got a couple photos of a fallen leaf with colors in the background.
I took the two photos about 2 minutes apart.
At F/9 and F/7.1, same leaf.
How could this be when leaves only fall once?

I look a hike down the Grand Rapids Riverwalk Trail to check out the work for the Restore the Rapids project.
They are restoring the Grand River to resemble it's natural state before the series of short dams were put in. The Grand is Michigan's largest river and it flows into Lake Michigan.

With the storms rolling in, the bats were out early. I was able to get a little more detail in this shot.

My Habaneros are extremely late this year. But, finally getting a few ripe ones. These are a necessity for the chili pot.

The White-Throated Sparrows are back in West Michigan.
In lower Michigan they leave in May while most birds are arriving. They return in late Sept/Oct. While the other birds are furiously migrating south, this guy can't wait until they are all gone so it can settle down.

Black Throated Blue Warbler
I took a hike down the NCST (Barry County, MI) and came to a very dark area under thick canopy and dense undergrowth. Not good for cameras but it was teeming with peepers!
Sat down on a fallen tree and set my camera to 1600 and wide open.
This large BTBW came to investigate my presence. (Lifer!)
