If all the group of students has in common is having an IEP, there is not way a resource room teacher can provide real intervention. #LeadInclusion #SpecialEd #MTSS #UDL #EdChat

Prevention is more effective than intervention! What happens in K-1 matters! Let’s intervene early and prevent reading struggles before they start. #LitLearn2025 #LiteracyMatters @IDA_Ontario @sstollar6

The job of first reading instruction (Tier 1) is to reduce the number of students who need intervention. We need to stop expecting students to fit into rigid, whole group, core programs and start building the educational systems students need and deserve.
Dr Stephanie Stollar at the Plain Talk Conference NOLA! “The job of tier one instruction is to shrink risk (of struggling readers)”. @cll_teach #plaintalk2025 @sstollar6

OMG!!!
🔄 Grouping students who have IEPs but varying needs into a resource room to be supported by a single teacher isn't likely to offer any opportunity for real intervention. Students with the same needs should be grouped for intervention time. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders

👥 Tier 3 intervention is NOT #SpecialEducation. Tier 3 only means intensive support. Not all who need intensive support have an #IEP. Not all with an IEP need intensive support. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #TeacherTwitter

Today our kindergarten and 1st grade students celebrated the wedding of q and u. They can now live happily ever after and always appear together in words like quick and queen. The students absolutely loved it!

Too often, I hear “meet students where they’re at!” But shouldn’t we focus on getting them to where they need to be? “The purpose of Tier 2 is NOT to take you back to where your skill is and keep you there…the purpose of Tier 2 is to accelerate your growth so that you catch up.” (13:32) @sstollar6 In addition to (“but not instead of”) required readings for my LLL508 course @VIUniversity, I have required listenings! This week’s required podcast episode is “How to use assessment data within MTSS” with Dr. Stollar and @measuredmom! This episode should be required in ALL teacher education programs across 🇨🇦 (and required for ALL system leaders, too!) @AnaVieira21C podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcas…

I really appreciate the way @sstollar6 explains this: Tier 1 phonics doesn’t HAVE to be whole group, but it also doesn’t HAVE to be only small group. Use your data - is whole group with some T1/T2 small group getting students to your goals? If not, then consider a change!

🏫 #Schools don't become "#inclusive schools" by #learning strategies and implementing programs. They become inclusive because the people are collaborative, caring, innovators who make it work for each #student. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL
